its $250K in most states and to be in the top 5% and "meh" would suggest less than 5% of the US retires. Which you know, is also absurd
most “retired” people live like shite tbh

you are a moron if you make that and cant find a way to retire or at the very least, live a life on your own terms. Straight up.
sure you *could* but an early retirement isn’t everyone’s primary goal. Some people want to put their kids through college and have a bit of luxury/breathing room. 200k, even for 15 years, isn’t nearly enough to be able to retire comfortably in your 50s for a lot of people

I need income but I don’t have any debt. And I think that’s a more reasonable goal for most people than not having to work at all And that was a 180 degree life changer for me

Agreed.

My younger days of strategizing credit card payments or how to expedite my wife’s student loan payoff were stressful.

For those who have achieved financial freedom and no longer "needed" to go to work, how did your personal and work life change for you?

I work more than ever because standards change and the continuous fear of what is to come. Sad but true.

Kids are expensive and their future is going to be even more expensive.

As much as I love to travel I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to retire. When I’m late 50s/60+ I may just take some jagoff sit around job working security for some hospital or big corporate building. Some mindless job that’s just a decent little paycheck to keep some cash comin in.

If a person can figure out how to earn within the top 5% of the US, which is like the top 0.5% of the world and you cant manage to retire early, you need to make sure you say your prayers and thank sweet baby Jesus for allowing a retard access to that kind of cash flow.

Like I said, people will rationalize how its "not that much", but the reality is you are making excuses. It is MORE than enough to retire early. Just be honest and say you want to spend most now.

I’m jealous of you baws.

I only owe

38 years left on my house and $656k
9 years on my F-250 and $76k
12 years on my boat and $94k
17 years on my student loans and $185k
7 years on my golf cart and $23k
4 years on Mrs. Perm’s titties and $8k

I’m sitting at $72k per year in income but those 3% annual increases are going to really start to add up.

“excuses” like wanting to send your kids to a good school and live in a good neighborhood? Or have a vacation home and/or do some traveling in a civilized manner?

That stuff is more important to a lot of people than sitting around the house at 55.

To each there own. But as I said. It is More than enough. Just because you dont want that doesnt mean $200K is "meh". It's 99.5% globally.

What you consider uncivilized is probably some kids best day ever considering a large portion of the world still shits in a hole in the ground.

Employer paid major medical. That's not an expense I want to tackle on the Obamacare exchange or individual market if I don't have to, which is why I take my happy arse to work every day and tough it out.

That is sort of where I am at.

Current Employer pays half of Medical Insurance, I was thinking about changing careers where insurance would be paid totally by employer for being single, and a decent share if I had kids. If I had kids at my current position, I would be working just for the insurance coverage. It is not just income that matters, insurance matters too unless you can get on the dole and get Medicaid.

The thing I didn’t see coming is that I no longer looked excitedly forward to weekends. I used to love weekends and normal weekend activities such as fishing, golf, sporting events, etc. Now I do most of my activities on weekdays. Golf two times a week sometimes 3 or 4. Weekend rounds cost a lot more, hard to get preferred tee times, and a round usually takes more time to play. Fishing – boat launch not as crowded and not having deal with a lot of idiots on the water. Hair cuts – much easier during weekdays. Shopping – I refuse to go to Costco on the weekend. Other stores not as bad but still worse than weekdays. Stock market is closed on weekends. Most weekdays I start the day off logged into my trading account (even though I do not trade a lot) and the TV on Fox Business. Except for rush hour, local traffic is worse on weekends than the middle of work days.

The really good thing for my wife and me is traveling to see friends and relatives without an itched in stone schedule. We take more trips and longer trips than when we were working and can move our dates around or extend with very little trouble and no concerns about work schedule.
