Sounds like a good reason to push for police to turn their damn bright arse flashing shite off once they get pulled over and put their regular flashers on.
Those bright arse fricking flashing lights are dangerous and are serving no point once the person who was supposed to see them saw them.

If the cop was so afraid after seeing a man, a woman and a child, then why not retreat to his vehicle and call for backup. This whole ordeal was over speeding, the car wasn't a suspect vehicle, the op wasn't drunk and probably was doing nothing more than speeding.. The cop freaked and since I'm not a cop, I'm willing to give him a pass but to continue through with the ticket is just so devoid of compassion

It isn't uncommon for cops to be shot during routine traffic stops...

True.
How common is it for them to be shot AFTER ascertaining that the car holds two frightened parents trying to cope with a small girl's medical condition, and not two drug dealers trying to get their hands on a glock?
I'm not seeing anyone really faulting him for the approach. It's the total and complete lack of what I like to call "humanity" afterwards that screams "a-hole" here.

Statistically speaking.. It's more of an anomaly. So it's quite the opposite of common.

So a person incapable of doing his job with awareness can now blame his short comings on children?
The cop was pretty damn aware that he pulled someone over for doing 11mph ober the limit and the first thing he saw was a person reaching and fumbling in the back seat.
I don't think the cop did anything particularly wrong. I also don't thino the OP is givng us the whole story.

Honestly, the cop had no idea what your wife was doing. Like others have said, just a bad situation. Glad your little girl is OK.

Except for maybe alerting other traffic on a dark road that there are cars n the side of the road.
You people will look for any reason to fault a cop.

I understand it's tough to make these calls, but how often are cops gunned down by middle class families? I know you've got to keep your guard up, but it's the same situation when my tail wagging golden retriever "charges" you.
I'm risking a gunfight to help a nice man and young daughter. I'm risking a bite to the arm to not kill a family pet. These are the decisions reasonable people make.

In fairness, they never kill the lights, even during the day.
I'm assuming it's a safety precaution but they don't need them as much as they use them.

Given that each seizure potentially causes at least a slight degree of brain damage, I am sure there are some lawyers who would be willing to take a crack at the case.

Would be a waste of the OPs money and time.

So his response was to run up to the car, having zero idea who or what is in the car, he is out in the open, and out numbered.
Sounds like adrenaline took over and may have resulted in training being ignored.
