Ok, good enough that the slight difference is not worth $100 extra bucks or more.

When I eat out, I order stuff that I absolutely cannot recreate at home.

Let the big dog eat. The reality is, is his over spending worth the product he puts out.
The other guy is getting trippled up on and still dropping 125 is the issue.

As the late Dymarius Thomas said: "only winners get wings".

The key here is that this is NOT HIS MONEY.

Read my posts in this thread. I'm a business owner and have made clear what is per diem and what is a business expense for a client and this is neither.

Sounds like if you want to retain them, you better bring your A game.

Sounds like the employee needs to understand his boundaries and the employer needs to pay per diem as a set daily amount when the employee is traveling and the issue will go away.

He wants a $250 dinner? His employer is paying for 1/2. Allowing the employee to put per diem spend on a company credit card is foolish by the owner. He's asking for his policy to be abused.

Look, I know a lot of people who can cook a steak just as well as any of those places, but the real bullshite is that you can cook a steak so well that you could make anyone want to "wipe their arse" with a steak from Ruth's Chris or Del Fresco's.
You lost all credibility with that impossibly stupid statement.

He probably just meant food in general. There's a weird internet-brag thing not just on this website where people say they don't dine out at all because they cook better than any restaurant does.

Reality is, most people aren't pumping out Thai, Indian, Italian, etc. on a regular basis in their homes that's as good as restaurants. I feel like when people say that stuff, it's because they weren't eating in very unique restaurants to begin with. Even the greatest chefs in the world go out to restaurants and enjoy great food that someone else made.

sorry baw, I stole that line from Ted Nugent(I think he was talking about elk or some other wild game,) but I can cook a steak as good as anything you'll taste in those restaurants, and that's not just my opinion, I've got quite the fan base, it really isn't that difficult to do, but I've been grilling /cooking now for pushing 50 years

I’m confused here... per diem usually means you’re cutting him a check for $125/day that covers everything, hotel and food. Usually that means $125 for 5 or 7 days per week.

Is this guy traveling intermittently and you’re expecting that to be $125 in total? If so GTFO of here. You can’t even get a hotel room for that.

The basic problem is you have a max per day spend but made the decision awhile back not to enforce it with him. It probably started at $10, $15, etc.. over and kept creeping up. Now it is double the max and you want to put genie back in the bottle.

Very difficult position you have created for yourself. You might want to sit down and explain the issue and ask him what can we do about it? Give him an opportunity to offer to correct or he can explain what/why and maybe you increase his amt per day.

Rules are only rules if enforced. BTW $125 per day is pretty solid… sounds like you are very reasonable. I would rather have 1 horse like this you have to try to rein in than 3 you got to spur and manage.

No, per diem as most people understand it is for food and incidentals. Hotels, rental cars, etc are separate.

$125 a day is pretty generous too because frequent travelers know how to get breakfast for free and are probably/should be charging lunch to “client meeting”. Sales guys on the road getting $125 a day on top of client expenses are LIVING LARGE.

yeah, I've noticed that, it general I'd have to say in my case it's true, but as I mentioned previously, sometimes I just enjoy going out and having a nice meal and being waited on, now when we go to the panhandle I do 100% of the cooking in the condo, with the exception of a Publix sub coastal people outside of La do not know what to do with fresh seafood

I’ve got a better idea. He’s just getting the “top producer bonus” which increases the daily limit for that guy. If the other employees want that, they have to outsell him. and if he wants to keep that perk he has to stay on top

There are two parts to per diem. Lodging expenses and food and incidentals. They are defined by the IRS as being two separate categories. We pay per diem for food only and the company books and pays for lodging.

You call yourself a Bama fan? Have you checked your head coaches salary? People would pay top dollar to recruit your coach and it’s not for his bubbly personality.

ETA: you probably won’t be able to keep this dude with your mindset. A dude this successful you should load his AOP and his commission potential. Keep in mind the expenses are small potatoes but something tells me you won’t.

Please tell me what a high end restaurant does different that anyone cant do at their house?

It has more to do with the quality of beef than how it is cooked jackass.

For someone who acts like he knows it all, you really don't know shite.
