Just over a year ago, July 13, 2013, I was admitted to the ICU with a severe case of guillain-barre syndrome. I went from being perfectly healthy on a Wednesday and by Saturday I was paralyzed from the knees down. By the middle of the following week I was on a ventilator. Ultimately I was paralyzed from head to toe, couldn't even blink my eyelids for roughly 2 months. I spent another 3 months after that in the hospital and was finally released to go home the day before Thanksgiving, still bound to a wheelchair.
I've had to re-learn EVERYTHING, but as of today I'm doing pretty well all considering how far I had to come.
I'm told it takes 12 months from the first signs of recovery, needless to say I'm looking forward to mid September.
