A benevolent dictatorship is really the only form of government that can ever last long term. And even that would have issues with successors that didn't keep with tradition.
A republic like our founding fathers intended could have worked but we'd have had to keep the federal government extremely small and give the states almost autonomous power other than what was originally outlined.

Smaller the national govt, the better off the people are.
I dont care if someone wants a socialist state govt, on a mational level it should be as least restrictive as possible.
