That is what it's like for every service, minus the Marines. I had a very, very competitive application. Just didn't apply after my initial interview.
Unless you're joining the Marines, a white male has lower than a 5% shot of getting into JAG.

Using LA as an example, Loyola is a lower ranked school, but a student that does well there can get good offers in NOLA (sometimes better than TLS, since NOLA firms often seem suspicious of out of state students). On the other hand, Loyola costs a ton of money. It can definitely work out in certain situations though.
Southern on the other hand..... I would steer clear unless you plan on joining daddy's firm.

Are metrics like that reliable for judging a law school?
That's a very bad law school.
I imagine top 10% from there gets you very, very mediocre opportunities. It will help if the law school feeds a very big market, but probably not much. I'm guessing you can be #1 overall and you're still not sniffing big law.

Alright, thanks. I'm not considering law school but I know someone who went to Southern and I was wondering whether that was actually a good idea. Sounds like it wasn't unless he has a job hookup I don't know about.

Yeah don't rely on me for Southern (not sure how they feed attorneys into LA markets), but in general I think those numbers are really poor.

Very bad move. Southern has a pretty sizeable alumni base, especially in the public sector, but that cache doesn't extend far beyond the state's borders. Add in the preexisting stigma in the legal community against Louisiana and its civil law and you have a really bad combination. If he wants to practice in Arkansas, he should under no circumstances go to Southern.

Southern is one of the worst law schools in the country. Probably top five worst. It can be a good option for people who just want to have the degree and work while they go to school. But nobody is going to get a quality legal education there.

Ok I lied. I guess these are the top 10 worst. Southern isn't on the list, but it has comparable numbers to these in every way but has a higher bar passage rate which still isn't good at <60%. Bottom line is, it's bad. The kid in question should try to get into Tulsa law school.

10 of us are WASP males, with 3 women (I say that only to make a point; all are incredible athletes and good attorneys). No minorities.
There are 3 Marine JAs here, 2 blacks and 1 Latino
But I've served with plenty of Marines throughout my service, most could have been Soldiers.

I mean, in Atlanta we have judges that went to bad schools too, but they're most often either
A) Magistrates or municipal judges; or
B) Shitty judges

This is probably the most accurate statement. True, a big name school will get you into a bigger firm, but bigger isn't necessarily better. Find a firm where you like the people and start getting experience.
I went to a crappy law school and work with a partner from Duke, and two from Harvard. Not because I where I went to school, but because I have solid experience.
