Is there anyway that it is possible to negotiate trade in value with an out of state dealership and hold them to their word.

Driving 10 hours to get a vehicle only to have a dealer reneg on their value by 5-8k would not work.

I didn't drive that far but I negotiated my last trade in via email. I just took about 10 pictures of my vehicle and they told me that their offer was good unless they discovered something major that I wasn't disclosing.

I'd want a agreed invoice where the deal was done pending signature in person before I'd drive that far. As long as you're truthful about the condition of the trade in.

A guy I know says the dealership where he works went from avg weekly sale of vehicles of 15-25 said they've only selling one or two a week. I'd imagine they'd want to deal right now.

Good luck!

I did this a month ago. I took about 10 pics and was very honest about the condition of the vehicle (inside was immaculate, but exterior had several dings and scratches, which I took pictures of) I also told them I didn't want any surprises on their offer price of trade b/c I would walk away no matter how far I came. They had the new car ready to go as soon as I got there. I just signed the paperwork and they gave me exactly what they said they would.

But yet I know a young salesman that works at a local Ford dealer. He sold 22 cars in April.

Don't drive to their dealership 10hrs away..they have no skin in game if you do that.

When I did mine we met halfway. They sent a hotshot guy with paperwork filled out.

There will always be a degree of trust required, but if your arse drives 10hours to pick it up you are already telling them to screw you

I did the same but ended up flying in and driving back. You'll get more for your car selling it.

Only if the cash value exceeds the trade in offer by more than the tax savings you get by subtracting trade in value from new vehicle price and only paying tax on the difference.

The key is your honesty in describing your vehicle. If the windshield is cracked, tell them. If you have a whiskey dent, send them a picture. If you’ve had paint bodywork done, disclose the extent. If you know of maintenance issues you would address in the next six months, if you kept it, disclose that.
If you do that, you should be fine.
Also, talk to the used car manager, not just the salesperson or internet person. Ask them if there is any equipment (sports pkg, sunroof, two working keys, etc.) or issues that would affect his appraisal.
Good luck.
