Just noticed that, but, something that small won't filter out minerals for very long. Seems like more of a gimmick. You would need larger media filters coming from the main that can be changed in an economical and fast way.
I only get about 500 gallons of filtered water from a filter thats about 30 times that size.

I actually had this same problem working in texas. Water made my hair feel gross.
Solution: wash your hair with filtered water from the store. In a basin. Will be way better for it and your filter isn't going to solve your problem

My hair! He lives in the country in a farmhouse with soft water and I leaned over the tub and with clarifying shampoo, the suds dripping out were a horrible color

You want Groove Joint Pliers. The ones on the right in your pic are groove joint pliers. Everyone refers to them as Channel Locks. Channel Lock is just a brand of groove joint pliers.

Does your friend have a water softener? Cause that's probably the difference If you see/feel a drastic difference. Either that or is all your imagination.

Some WaterPik products advertise that they don't require the teflon tape because of the structure/materials of the pipe, FYI

No I'm trying not to ask maintenance since it doesn't seem like their job and I hate asking maintenance for too much

It probably won't help, but it won't hurt either (besides the reduced pressure) but if the new spray head is new it might be more efficient with less pressure than your old one. Worth a try since you already have the materials and sounds like pretty much free labor too.
