re: How the UK would rank as a 51st state

You do understand that many of the things they are 1st in are the reasons why their GDP would be 51st (and falling), yes?
You could look at those measures for Canada vs the US and they'd likely be about the same.
At some point you actually need people creating things (read: working) if you want to a) grow your economy and quality of life and b) provide any sort of social programs.
New York is basically experiencing the same thing right now and Hochul fully admitted it (though she's too moronic to understand that her values and policies are what is causing the issue). The old saying "socialism is great until you run out of other people's money" stays around because it's true.

And the US is thriving? I wouldn’t think so based on appearance and what yall cry about constantly?

So your shining example has a GDP worse than West Virginia and you're somehow suggesting the US is not thriving?
Please, list the countries that are thriving more than the US.
You people are demented.
ETA: Please tell the class what you mean by "appearance".

The issue with this is that the list is putting a heavy, heavy weight on their social safety nets. That is an issue because their safety nets are failing with funding. This happens because when the safety nets were put in place it was to fight poverty, but over a couple decades became a 'why work when the government will protect me'. Their poverty level is rapidly increasing and their social funding is not there to fight it, or even maintain current levels.
The NHS is on brink of collapse and unless they heavily overhaul it or force people off it to get private insurance, it will not be viable by 2030. The hospitals and regional centers are overbooked. Their medical teams are quitting, and they don't have the workforce to replace it, so they are just overworking those that remain, which will lead to more burn out. They are 100% dependent on countries like the US funding research on procedures, testing, and pharmaceuticals. If the 'Most Favored Nation' pricing for pharmaceuticals and healthcare takes shape, then their system will have to be forced out or collapse even sooner.
The holidays and GDP go hand in hand, you can't not work for 8-10% of the year and have a workforce that is content with social safety nets if they don't perform.
Gun deaths...that comes with it's own issues. Obviously they essentially banned handguns and now the government controls their speech, money, and lives.
Road deaths, a good number, but the avg UK citizen drives ~6k miles per year. The avg US citizen drives ~14k miles. If you do deaths per mile the UK is still 1st, but probability would say if miles and drivers both increased that number would rise.
Life expectancy, obesity, education, and drugs are awesome. Those are stats that I can tip my hat to.
Let's not also leave out that despite recent immigration, they are FAR more racially homogenous than the US. A better comparison would be where they rank by race with each state on every metric.

This meme is dumb
Many of these “1st” rankings, such as paid maternity leave and “healthcare coverage” aren’t measures of standard of living, but are just Uk being given a 1st ranking because they have a law

How does the UK rank on viability if the US removes their security guarantee? They are hardly a real country. They are a US protectorate.

How much do we subsidize their military? Not only theirs, but basically the world's?
Let them (and everyone else) pay their fair share and see how quickly all those other numbers drop.
Quality of life diminishes when daddy stops paying your bills for you.

In terms of free speech, yes. Yes it is. Only calls to violence are not protected. Even the old "can't say fire in a theater" is false.

When people tell you who they are and what they're going to do, listen to them.
Too many people and countries are learning this the hard way. Not all cultures are created equal.
Anyone think this is where it ends? Or do we think this is just the starting point until they have more people and influence?

Using this as an debate point would not be wise since only the bastions of leftism, here in the states, appear to be equal to or worse than what is found in the UK. Everywhere else, appearance wise, is more than fine.
