it takes some discipline to accumulate that much at a young age.

It does, but someone should be able to save that amount by the time they’re 30. Just takes some sacrifice.

45 miles in major metro traffic. That is easily 1.5 hours on a good day.
I know several people that commute from The Woodlands to downtown Houston...I have a friend that commutes from Sealy to his job site off Beltway 8...45 miles

Not ideal...but people do it. You have to be willing to leave earlier in the morning.

I praise the good Lord daily for my WFH sitch

Plus, there's a certain point on the corporate ladder where you can start work at like 10:30am daily and get away with it because people can wait on you

I earned my way there

eta:

I answer emails from India and China at 2am and shite

False equivalency. Rich people crimes aren't violent crimes that keep normal people from moving to certain unsafe neighborhoods. If I saw Bernie Madoff (just an example, I am well aware that he is dead now) walking down the sidewalk, I wouldn't be afraid he was going to rob and kill me.

You can't find any homes under 300,000 in the burbs? Nowhere?

We bought a home for $295,000 in 2004. That was the last home I’ve seen for $300k in NTX. I don’t think there’s a home anywhere near us under $400k and that would be in a less desirable area.

New saving per month = 0. So no, someone with 75k income can’t afford a median house in Dallas. Houses are officially an upper middle class exclusive item.

Someone with this mindset will lose out on the opportunity to leverage the most consistent and tax efficient investment there is. They will stay poor.

But he did rob people, lots of people for lots of money.

I’m hearing Woodie Guthrie in my head. Great lyrics.

“Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.”

Come on Chicken, you know that there is more early morning traffic in Houston than probably any major city in the country. I-10 is rolling before 0530. I landed at IAH at 0700 one day, and it took me two hours to get home in Katy (heading outbound.)

HP did a study a few decades ago that the greatest predictor of someone quitting was whether their commute was over about 40 minutes or not, regardless of industry. How DFW deals with Plano/Dallas/Arlington, I have no idea.

Dallas was the original home of the $30k millionaire baw. They can work that magic in a C class Benz and SaKs sales rack like you never seen

Hard to do these days. Family of four with just a 3 and 5 yo, and we probably triple that on average without little to no alcohol or much eating out.

Thank Kroger and Tom Thumb. My grocery bill in Houston (H-E-B) was about half that with pre teens.
