Tbh I've never ran that far. I hate distance running. So i'm not confident I could actually do that without stopping.

are you doing zone training?

Yeah, most of bike and run training is is heart rate zone specific. Swimming is more by pace/effort.

Higher intensity run and bike intervals are done targeting pace / power targets rather than HR but other than speedwork, almost all of my run training is HR zone specific.

Truth be told, I am leaving for a ski trip tomorrow, had a great massage yesterday and don't want to develop any new tightness, etc but do want to do something to be active and get some exercise in. Thought about doing an easy run walk from Galloway but figured this might keep me engaged a little more to try.

Can't tell if you're joking or not.

For the physiological answer, it's all monotonous if you believe it to be, and it's as comfortable as your fitness allows.

Thats the question. It's not physically what the body can handle it's what pace can you mentally handle by still maintaining a physiological jog.

And improved fitness does not allow for a slower jog...thats just incorrect.

I could start jogging four miles and never finish if that counts

Not sure how slow, but I do know I’d start off slow and taper off.

So here's the plan. My normal running zone 1 HR is based off threshold figures not max HR but I think it's close enough for this.

Zone 1 is 105-129 BPM so that's my target. 45 minutes of jogging under 129 and over 105.

I'm terrible at slow runs because my default "comfortably slow" pace is always in the 8:30-9 min/mile pace, but that is too fast for most prescribed slow runs.
Now this is an OT answer.

On a treadmill I usually transition from walk to a slow jog between 3.5 and 4 mph. I think 3.5 is about as slow as I could go and it be considered an actual jog.

Flat or on a hill?

I could do 3.5 at a big incline (>=10%) but don't think I could if flat.

Slight incline was what I used to run on (2%). A 3.5 mph jog would be awkward, but if my goal was to jog as slow as possible and it still be a jog, I think that’s the lowest I could possibly go. 4.5 mph was my standard slow jog warm up and cool down.

I don't think you would be jogging anymore if you were over 15 minutes.
a 15 minute mile is a brisk walking pace. I walk a few miles at a decent pace with 50lbs on my back and my goal is to keep it under 16 minute miles. If i do'nt have the pack then i can get it under 15 minutes pretty easily but it's a very fast pace for walking, and it hurts my shins.

If you're jogging at the slowest pace you could, i'd say about 13 minutes is the slowest you could go.

and there is a big difference between jogging a 12 minute mile and walking a 14-15 minute mile when it comes to your heart rate, at least for people who aren't in good shape.
