Yeah you have no idea what a micromanager is. This person actually does no real work and can only criticize others work.

No. I am very hands-on to a fault. I would take tasks away. When I decided to give up on being the example, I found out my folks could do the work.

To get them off your back, turn it around on them: - first of all tell them you are going to need more of their time daily to help you - document every interaction...make it clear you are taking notes when they are talking with you - When speaking w them, ask a ton of questions, even if you already know the answer - Send a recap of every interaction to them and ask them for feedback - demand daily meetings with them to review all of your tasks - if they are in meetings w you, randomly call them out ask them questions on the minutiae in front of others - The goal is to make their interactions w you so TEDIOUS they won't want to be around you

So you are that employee…jk, yes, these are the things to do…however, there is the chance of the “menage et toi” effect. They might be into it.

My micromanager does no real work. I know all micromanagers are different but mine does very little.

I feel like best way is just become completely helpless ask for input on every tiny thing until they can't stand it.

Where is X? Oh was waiting on your input on xyz.

Do your job right. But if this person is blatantly micromanaging, become an overachiever but with brutally, assertive, honest questions and answers. I work in a highly micromanaged field with millions of dollars involved daily and this worked for me!

My boss is like this, shedding tidbits of wisdom such as "let's get this fixed" and "what can we do to make sure this doesn't happen again"

I just answer all questions professionally, if it's not the first time he asks the question, I make sure to reference the initial question and response.

"Yes, we spoke about that on Monday, it is done"

Makes him back off a bit.

As a manager, if I have to micromanage you, I don't want you on the team. You're useless to me.

If I can't trust you to execute independently, then I don't need you. I can do it myself or find someone else that can.

This is as a retired executive, I have seen a lot of them, they are insecure, afraid to trust others and often feel intimidated by those who are suceesful... Constantly ask for details, fill their email and with responses to their micro... Never, trust them

Had one on a project a few years ago.

He would call multiple times every two hours or so to go over minute details.

After a couple weeks I took screenshots of his calls on the the call log, added all the phone time together, and basically gave him a summary of how many hours a week of productive time I was losing because of his calls. It was over 6 hrs/week for 3 weeks. fricking nuts.

How about just meet or exceed his expectations…every time.

That doesn't work. I had a guy once who made extensive corrections to a (perfectly good) document I gave him. So I made his corrections and handed it back. Then he changed it back to the way it was when I first gave it to him.

I had a shift lead years ago who was "micromanager" as you call it. How did I get back at him? I didn't do ANYTHING without asking the dude if it was okay or right. It wasn't just me, it was six of us on that team/shift. We all did it. It didn't matter how pointless and simple the task, we'd get him over there to get his input. Even when he was off on vacation, or what have you, we would call him probably twenty times a shift. He would also never take a break in peace. This went on for a couple of months until we completley and totally broke him. He left on his on volition after blowing up and embarrassing himself.
