By that I mean are there a lot of blatantly racist members, and do people say racist stuff openly at functions, for example?

I would have argued that there isn’t a bunch of that, but I just heard a story about a frat at UGa that has me wondering.

They are probably very racist but also have black friends.

The black groups brand members like slaves of yore. So there's that.

The historically black fraternitties take pride in being predominantly if not 100% made up of black members

So I’d say pretty racist

I know there was a group of dudes from North Louisiana who blackballed a pledge who was a cool dude and friends with some other actives simply because he had some Asian in him. That’s about when I stopped coming around as much.

You'll hear racial slurs. I'll get downvoted, but it's true.

The types of chapters you're thinking of only make up a small percentage of overall chapters. Most chapters suck and bid everyone. The good ones that's people consider racist aren't any more racist than the general public.

My fraternity had 125-150 guys in the 1980s at LSU and we had an exchange with a black fraternity and were the first white fraternity to participate in Stomp ( finished second). Fraternities have humans in them, some will be racist as hell others will be all about racial equality.
