My barber is a ww2 vet. His prices rarely go up. He charges $12, I pay 20

Mine is usually $17 and I just make it an even $20.
This is what I've always done, but reading this thread I am starting to feel cheap

I tip $10 on a $40 haircut.

$5. If I close I deal she referred to me, $250. Hair dressers and barbers are great referral generators.

I very rarely have cash on when I go there so I tell them I'm going to the arm to get money out
Can't you just put the tip on your debit/credit card?
My place only takes cash. Yes, it's stupid.

And I don't need my scalp massaged while you wash my hair and I don't need a warm towel wrapped around my face.
And I don't need a sloppy blowjob from Kate Upton, but I'd certainly like one.

Not saying I dislike a scalp massage or a warm towel - it's just not worth an additional $50+ to me when the actual haircuts are equal.

Gave $15 when it was $10 for the cut and when they went to $12. Now it's $15 and I pay $15 still. It takes 5 mins, I can't pay more than that.

My barber (I've used him for 25 years) charges me $14 and that is after a couple of price increases over the years. He spends 20 minutes with electric clippers and performs minor touch ups with scissors. I'm done in no more than 25 minutes. He also cuts my wife's and son's hair. I never tip him. I hand him a check for $14. We are great friends. It is never an issue. Why tip a guy for performing a service with a previously agreed upon price?

$0, but I'm black.
ETA A hair cut at black barber shop is now between $25-$30 for 15 minutes of work. No tip needed.
I can vouch for this. I owned a business that was next to a black barbershop. I thought I'd be a good neighbor and get my haircut there (since I just needed a #2 buzzcut). Dude did it in less than five minutes and charged me $25.

I usually tip $8-10 on a $35 cut
