Women know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Spend less on the ring and more on life if you really found a good one.

Expensive engagement rings are obviously silly, and something guys feel like they have to spend a lot of money on just so their precious fiancée won't be outdone by her friends.

That being said, it might be a good idea just to buy a nice one to satisfy your fiancée. It would be a pretty good investment if she makes a lot of money.

Try to find an antique band that she knows was picked out with her in mind which will make it special to her . . . then add whatever size diamond you are comfortable with adding to the setting. One carat with good clarity is more impressive than 3 carats with flaws.

Determine the highest dollar amount where she will say no. Add $1.

Per the diamond industry.

Buy her what YOU want to buy her. She is saying yes/no to you, not the ring.

Find a setting that she loves and get it with a center stone you can afford.

Upgrade the center stone later on if you want.

The only answer is:

Whatever you feel is appropriate.

while it is not an investment it also isn't a car, its a diamond, the value won't depreciate.

At some point, De Beers will get broken up and those values will plummet.

This is what it is all about and the engagement ring commercials I hear on the radio play to exactly this

They all have the same theme

"If you don't get her a diamond like X or Y she will know you went cheap and hate you for it! So you might as well go the distance!"

If a woman hates you for not spending enough on a ring she doesn't actually love you and it's a relationship/marriage doomed to failure.

Rings are just another way women compete with other women

Love seeing the schmucks come out when this topic is discussed. I haven't gotten engaged yet, but it'll be soon. I refuse to buy a diamond though. Will likely go with moissanite. shite ton cheaper, still at the upper end of the hardness scale and they have a cut that mimics diamonds perfectly. Only real diff is that moissanite has more fire in it. I've researched it enough that I can tell the diff between it and diamond but I doubt the untrained eye could.

Do yourself a favor and look into it. Please don't buy into this diamond BS just because everyone else tells you to. Absolutely ZERO reason a diamond deserves a higher price tag than any other gemstone.

Why not just get a completely different gemstone instead of a one that is a fake diamond?

I just don't want her to be talked about and be ran through the gutter by friends and family. I don't want that for her.

Make no mistake. They're not going to be talking bad about the girl that got skimped on, squeaker.

I'm confused. This is a sane and rational statement about relationships, but it's goldennugget.
