While not unemployed, I've had a huge reduction in hours (basically work 20/40). It asked for estimated earnings pre-tax. I put $643. It was denied for making too much.

Isn't the federal government giving $600/week in addition to the state giving $247? My post-tax pay will be less than the tax free income the federal government is giving. What incentive do I have not to just close doors and get paid not to work?

You will make more in the short-term if you get fired. It's a strange situation.

My boss has been giving me bread crumbs in hours in order for her business to stay in operation. I'm going to tell her to furlough me to save both of us money.

Anything above 350, well 346 actually will disqualify you. Use to be weekly amount x 40% could make. Any above would reduce ui $ for $.

Where you are disqualified from state i have been wondering if federal will still pay the $600.

I applied on laworks. So I lost half my income but apparently that's not enough to give assistance. Yeah, I've made some money but I also have bills that align with what I made. That means my mortgage can't be paid. Meanwhile, some bartender is making more not to work than they ever did.

It doesn't really save our company money because we don't pay unemployment insurance. We still have to pay the regular UI claim. (not the $600 extra though). It can be like $250/week in Louisiana. Higher in other states.

Don’t think if it as “getting fired”, think of it as incentive to social distance!

You have to qualify for at least $1 Louisiana unemployment to get the $600 federal. And the state waives the first $50 you make. Being that it’s $247 max you can make $296 and still get the 600. Yeah it’s stupid but that’s what I read on the Louisiana workforce website.

Do you have health insurance through your job? That's the biggest reason.

If you make more than $247 a week you are denied Louisiana unemployment benefits. However, they review your situation and you may still get the federal $600. I'm in the same boat as you. Hours dramatically cut

Is your work affected by COVID-19 but you don’t qualify for state unemployment? Help may be on the way.
If you have already filed for unemployment with the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) and received a notice of monetary ineligibility, we will automatically review your claim to see if you may qualify for Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUA). This includes:

Self-employed individuals
Contract (1099) workers
Anyone who previously applied for unemployment due to COVID-19 but did not have enough earned wages to qualify (also known as monetarily ineligible)
As part of the PUA review, we will send you additional instructions very soon. You do NOT need to contact the LWC. Be sure to continue filing every week that you are still not working/working reduced hours.

What about that $600?
Individuals who are receiving either state-funded “regular” unemployment benefits or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) as a result of COVID-19 are potentially eligible for Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) benefits. These federally funded benefits will provide an additional $600 a week retroactive to April 4, 2020, through July 25, 2020, as long as you qualify for unemployment because your work status is impacted by COVID-19. No action is needed by you – all FPUC payments will be automatically issued based on your unemployment status for the week claimed, so be sure to keep filing every week that you are not working or working reduced hours

The employees I kept on were able to get something due to cut hours. I have seen between $187 and $247

And, that bartender likely cheats on their taxes each year as well. You think they claim all tips?
