I thought the same thing at one point.

Yep. Damn kids are expensive.
They are worth it though.

I know a guy who has never made more than 50k that has zero debt and owns his house on about 10 acres. Lived for years in a trailer saving money. He will retire at 48.

I know quite a few people like that and I'm jealous of their discipline to be where they are.

And here we are back to what each person's idea of living comfortably means. I probably wouldn't like to live that guys life with having to live in a trailer and building out in the country, etc.

Whatever works though.

When you have enough that you don't have to worry about it. Could be a lot, could be a little.

$75k for an individual in all but the most expensive metros is going to feel like "good money".

Unless you live in Boston, NYC or west coast cities, $75K+ is "good money" for single folks. Very nice apt., travel at will, etc.
Wife + kid(s), HH income of $150K+ should allow for a similar lifestyle.

You can give yourself a nice raise, effectively to those levels and beyond, with some fairly simple lifestyle changes. But that's for another thread.

I make about 80. My friends from high school would call me a 1% upper class a-hole who should be paying 75% income tax. Among the adults I’m friends with now, I’m closer to the bottom than the top.

I have always made good money when I was making it in the 80's I made round 50K right before I stopped I was making 120K The thing is I am a simple guy and a giver by nature above 35 to 50 k I mostly just gave it away I have a small house that I am very happy with and very little expense. I never aspired to the big brick mansions and my idea of a man cave is our out door fire pit.

Good money to me always meant stable honest money as in a career type deal.

Good money to me implies you're doing really well and have money to burn, so I'd say 300k.

"Good Money" = money made from honest endeavors.

"Bad Money" = money made from criminal activity (like the salary of a politician).

Everyone needs to learn to live within their means. If you can’t put some money aside each month because of bills alone... then you are living outside your means. Just because there is a new version of your favorite vehicle doesn’t mean you need to get it. You don’t need a 8k television. You can learn to cook and eat at home more. Simple decisions lead to much better life.

If you are 2x the median income for your zip code you should be doing pretty well.

Have a relative that drives a UPS truck, his wife is a nurse...they live in a tiny town..5k people in town...houses and land cost nothing there...he has 4 bedroom on probably 3-4 acres and they live very comfortable...fixed expenses just lower... would imagine total household income <100k
