Explain how they scammed you. Also, scam artists are an entirely different issue. At least they are making an effort to make a profit. Most of this thread has been about the homeless that just sit there.

It is raw and edgy, but the point of my post was 'how much is too much?' For reference, this my third time here on business. We're here for a network meeting despite 75% of the network being near Houston. Because Houston is so wide, and even locals would have to book hotels, there is not much of a cost offset between having the meeting in Houston vs. having it in NOLA. It's more expensive to do in NOLA, but not so much more that some mid-level manager can't justify it with nothing more than their own personal preference. The moment someone perceives NOLA to be a safety issue, these conferences move to Houston. With downtown Houston building up, that may just become more and more likely.

We know, you already said that. Or a very similar version of it. I don't know, you don't use paragraphs.

One of them asked "I bet I know how many kids your father had". Drunk me said I bet you can't and he said bet $20. Should have known it was a trick. Drunk me loves to gamble and so I took out a $20 bill. When I asked for the number he said your father didn't have any kids as in none literally came out of him. Argued for like 20 minutes, then said frick it, he needs it more than me.

Yeah, that one is on you. Hell, that's a story that you just paid $20 for. I actually have no problem with this.

Just giving you a hard time. The points you are trying to make aren't incorrect, just hard to read.

There are more bums in downtown Houston than I've seen in any other city

Agreed, Nola really isn't that bad compared to cities the same size. Just got back from Nashville.. I was surprised at how many bums are on corners in downtown and suburbs.

After listening to a service mechanic from that area that came to our work the other day describe how 4 of his family members (brother, niece, aunt, grandmother) have Ben murdered over the years there I'm pretty much not bringing my family there.

It changed our minds. We were going to go this week during spring break to bring the kids to the zoo, aquarium, and me to the wwII museum. Didn't happen.

Too many drunks.I'd have to kill somebody.

eta:My Niece and her Husband love going to New Orleans. They're 27 years old. They still party.

Last time they went some Bar on Bourbon St. was charging $50 over and over on their Credit Card til the Bank froze it for unusual behavior.

Stay in the warehouse / cbd and you for the most part won't have this problem.

I love these NOLA hate threads while the city remains in an economic boom and is more of a hotspot for new business, jobs, and tourists than it has been in several decades.

Really? I'm bringing my son down there for the next two weekends for soccer tournaments. It's not that bad. I'm sure we'll hit the zoo and walk in Audubon park...probably won't even see someone get murdered the whole time we're down there.

The true bums aren't bad but the street dwellers near and around Jackson Square are atrocious and even aggressive.

All tourist towns do that, though.

San Francisco, while nice, still has plenty of bums in high-visibility touristy areas.

You can smell plenty of bathroom odors when you walk by.

Perhaps if they were Confederate statues. I saw the other day where NOLA has become a "sanctuary city," so their problems are only going to get worse.
