i have a samsung French door refrigerator that we bought in 2011. Over the weekend the ice maker stopped working and no longer makes ice. I tried everything from the YouTube videos and restarting it and nothing. How much am I looking at to get it fixed? Inbefore350

Too much. I researched this and saw a bunch of people saying it goes back to freezing over eventually. We just use ice trays now.

I've got a similar one. I replaced the ice maker once. Got it on ebay for 100 to 150 bucks. I've also had to use the reset procedure more than a couple times to get it reworking. It has some known, recurring problem.

In the upper door or in freezer on bottom? I ordered mine, for upper door, on Amazon for around $125. Quick and easy install.

Kenmore used to make some great appliances back in the day before it was bought out by Whirlpool. Theirs prob has an icemaker with a huge ice bucket compared to these newer models. I used to have one like that.

Inherited a Samsung fridge in my house. Quickly entered into a war with the icemaker. Fixed it three times. Last time it broke, I wheeled out into the garage as an extra fridge. Bought a new fridge/freezer combo with two icemakers.

The short answer...it cost me a lot of money to fix a Samsung icemaker.

I wonder if a good quality portable ice maker machine would be worth it.

Had a 5 yr old Samsung that came with the house we bought that had previously been worked on. Called the go to appliance repair guy in our area and the first words out of his mouth were if it’s a Samsung I will not work on it. Good luck

There are six possible ice makers.
They are easy to change for the most part.

If you diy - $100-140

Pro - $200-275.

Kenmore has never in history made appliances.

In fact they're not owned by whirlpool. The first three numbers in the model number tells you who made the Kenmore appliance. 110 is whirlpool.
Many now are LG .

who made my Kenmore?

A lot of old timers fear the Koreans. Samsung has these fasttrack guides for every unit. Makes them super easy to work on. It's LG that has the shite compressor. Most of my LG calls are a bad compressor.

Samsung and LG units with the bottom freezer have issues with the ice box they put in the fridge. I hate that design.

Some need recaulking, some need more insulation, some need an add on heater.
They can be near impossible to fix right.

Will never buy another crapsung refrigerator again. Have had ours for about 5 years and about every 2 months the ice maker freezes up. Have to use the hair dryer to thaw it. Just a pain in the butt especially for what we paid for the fridge. BTW the washing machines are no good either.
