re: How much do partners at Big 4 Accounting Firms make?

I think you are overstating it for advisory, particularly the gulf coast. It also varies a bit firm to firm. The jump in pay is from director/sm to partner/non-equity partner. In your example you are going from $60k-$180k in 5-8 yrs or so. That is a false expectation.

Manager level at big 4 can make pretty close to family med salary if you include bonus. 180k-220k isn’t unheard of these days.
Damn, I imagine their wives have to work too. To supplement.

Can’t speak for NYC, Seattle, Bay Area markets, but that is not what tax and audit managers are making in 99% of offices. Honestly those numbers aren’t even close.
It seems overstated for every market. It's incredibly easy to find Big 4 comp bands by market. There are massive annual comp threads by firm on reddit, Google docs that make the rounds, etc.

My cousin is. He lives in a $2 million house and belongs to a country club that costs $100k to join.

I’ve heard avg partner @ Deloitte is bringing in about $650/yr.

I have several buddies that were full of excitement and wonder as they started their careers right after college with a Big 4 firm. Talking big game about their starting salary and their track to partner.
5 years later they were all out of big 4. They're doing very well in life, but those companies sucked the life out of them. They had no lives because of the hours.
They'll all say it was worth it though, great for their resumes.

That’s in line for advisory in most markets. Audit is lower, but isn’t that much lower especially if they boomerang or were experienced hires.

What would be your estimate for a range on audit/tax managers?

Accurate. Key is “isn’t unheard of”. Meaning it’s not the norm but that level of pay exists for people as poster defined.

Not sure, but a golf buddy that was a partner was paying his ex-wife $10k a month alimony.

In Atlanta I’d say 90-120

For consulting the range is huge. I don’t know what minimum is for managers now, but I’ve known manager in our sap practice to start in low 160s. Was hired at EY as experienced senior in the 130s.
The key is changing jobs at the right time to make market pay. I’d say the difference with audit/tax and consulting is that consulting professionals more apt to make job changes that result in them being paid market wages.

A partner at Big 4 in Atlanta only making $120K? There's no way that is correct

Is that a partner?

Poster responding to my earlier question about range for Audit/Tax managers, specifically in Atlanta.
Not a Partner.
Not a Partner.

Right. Manager =/= Partner.
