I beg to differ, my wife cost me $29.00 ( for the license ), and it has been the best investment I have ever made.
I would be close to buying one share of Merck in 1940 and selling it before the 2000 market crash.

I think this is the smart way to go, then upgrade at the milestone anniversaries.

3700 for the set, guess I'm a poor here. Wife liked it so that's all that mattered to me. Only spent 9 grand on the wedding as well. But we balled on the honeymoon which I think was the best investment.

I wouldn't buy from a jeweler, pick it up second hand and have it replated for a couple hundred bucks and it will look brand new. 50% of marriages fail, that's a lot of rings on the secondary market that are available for at least 30-40% less than original cost.
I paid $7,500 for a ring that I couldn't find in a store for less twice that. Don't confuse appraised value for purchase price though, appraised value on mine was 22K.
Check craiglist Houston, within the first few results saw this not a bad deal on a certified 1 ct white stone already set. If you look around you will find a good deal.

Especially since the stats say you won't make too many of them...

Engagement ring: 6K (Not a big deal)
Wedding band: 1.2K (because apparently they have to match)

Of course not. I do get tired of hearing her yammering on about you though.

I sprung for the dabeerz Kony Collection with authentic blood stains on the diamond. I'm not comfortable saying how much, but I'd like to thank each and every person who gave their life for it.
