My payment was to rake it and bag it and then wash the car if I wanted to use it Saturday night to take the HS GF out to a movie.

It was a chore. We didn’t get paid to do chores.

$5 a yard early 70’s.
Made enough money to buy a new Yazoo mower and have spending money.

When I lived on Seymore Johnson AFB, it was $5 bucks for a cut and edge in early 80’s. Yards were small and if you got adjoining yards you could do 4 in about an hour and a half.

Then I moved to Las Vegas. We had a service that came and stained our rocks.

Then I moved to Louisiana and yards were 20 and 30 acres. I never mowed grass there.

The real question is how much grass did you smoke as a kid.

Our yard, zero. Did get a modest allowance.

Neighbors (suburbs) $3 per yard. Cut lots of yards in the late 60s/early 70s.

A coke in the sixties was 6 cents, then went up to 7. Great dismay.

First grass cutting job was with a big wheeled push mower and I guess it was about a half acre of grass. The owner tossed me a big, shiny 50 cents piece after I was through.
My next job paid $4 for 4 hours of cutting...but the lady gave me an ice cold Coca Cola at the 2 hour mark.

We've come a long way!
