These cotton numbers don't look good.

We need to figure out how to make money with farming, without raising consumer prices too much. We also need to do this without using all of our available land.

Lets get to work OT. We can figure this out.

Just kidding. You guys are dumbasses. Ill figure this shite out myself.

Wouldn't the plants on the lower levels not get enough sunlight without lamps?

Wouldn't the costs of powering all of those lamps negate the gains in acreage?

Thanks for the groundbreaking info. That's the point of the thread.

Should we copy Stalin and the Soviet Union's 5 year plans?

Things that would need to be overcome with great ideas.

They sorta have to. It's a risky business and basically impossible to start out farming now as a career.

Equipment prices are absurd

Not sure what those are, and since they obviously didnt work, I dont see how they are relevant.

I have a good bit of land and want to farm as a career instead of working in Houston because I enjoy being outside. But there's literally no money in it. And you have to take out millions in equipment loans.

I'm currently looking at possibly starting a small biofuel company using tallow seeds from invasive Chinese tallow trees

I would love to read updates on this if you ever get it going. This is the type of info worth posting.

Yep. I'm sure there are many ways to harness the sun that we haven't thought of yet.

LSU Ag center did a study on it first back in 2008. I randomly found the paper one day and got interested in the subject.

It's a good read

Factory/warehouse farming with controlled LED lights and drip irrigation/fertilization is the future for a growing global population. We will also use genetic modification to increase yields even further.

Cotton numbers look awful no doubt, so your plan is to grow more acres of cotton using an even more expensive growing system? Gosh, farming is probably easy.
