Not a smart move at all.
There have been numerous break ins in really nice areas where I live. Someone usually pulls up in the neighborhood late at night and just goes car to car trying doors to see which ones are unlocked. That is likely what happened in the post I just made.

Not really. One would have to get past my dog first which doesn't let anything come in the yard.

Has my truck stolen off Brightside in 1997. We found it in the same parking lot just in a different spot a few weeks later. They jacked my CB radio and put a few hundred miles on it I think. Luckily they left my sweet 10 disc JVC changer alone.

Once when I was in college. Forgot to lock my truck when I got back to apartment after work. Came out the next morning and saw my truck was ransacked. They stole all my loose change, a can of dip and my Microsoft Zune and a couple of bottle of gatorade out of my gym bag. frickers must have been thirsty cause they hit about 10 cars in the complex.

Nurse, if I go to the city, I do lock things up. But here at home, no problem.
Nice to live down a dead end street. One way in, one way out. The few people that live around here do have cameras set up including me.

It was my old car. I just bought a car and still had the old one. Was waiting for someone to buy it and had it parked in the APT parking garage. Come out one day to get something from it and someone went through. Stuff was everywhere but they didn't take anything. Wasn't much in there besides pocket change.

After growing up in NOLA, and going to school in BR, surprisingly the only time I've had my car broken into was in Houston.

Zero. I don't really take great precautions either. Maybe it's because my truck isn't that nice and stays kinda dirty.

Twice. Once in college and once at home.

I don't feel like this is true

I go up to central Wisconsin a good bit for work and most of the people up there say they can't remember the last time they locked their house or car

I’ve had 3 break ins
One truck stolen
One truck left on cinder blocks.
All happened in NOLA

My gf's extra car got broken into in NO a few months ago. Nothing was in there, but they ripped the driver's seat off of the backing. Almost positive they had some kind of keyfob scanner that opened the door for them, because it was 100% locked when we went inside, and MB calls us when the alarm goes off

They are absolutely positively using some kind of device that opens up keyless entry vehicles. Ford’s especially. My truck was opened a few nights ago and it was 100% locked, they got in rummaged around didn’t break the window nothing was stolen the alarm went off and we heard it inside walked outside driver side door was left wide open and the alarm going off

5 times. All in New Orleans(surprise)
1 time Uptown they stole my CD changer, when those were still a thing.
2 times they broke into my Blazer when I worked in Gentilly and stole my stereo.
1 time they broke into my Silverado in Lakeview and stole the stereo.
A second time they broke into my Silverado, but I had gone back to the stock radio and had nothing of value.
I still wish nothing but horrible things happen to whoever they were. I fricking hate a thief.
eta: I forgot to add that a couple of years ago, some cocksucker stole the tail lights off my truck. Who fricking steals tail lights?

I guess they'll get me eventually. All I keep in my truck is a pair of sunglasses though. A few of my dumbass neighbors have had guns stolen out of unlocked vehicles. That's just insane to leave in your vehicle unlocked.

Only once. 20 years ago while parked in the French Quarter.
I did have a car stolen once though from in front of my house. Kind of worked out very well for me as I had it for sale and was having trouble getting a buyer.
They found it four days later out in New Orleans East. Seemed like it was professional thieves as they only took out the two airbags and two other things. The insurance company just called it a total loss and cut me a check for more than what I was trying to sell it for.
The insurance person said there was one of those "in memory of" thug t-shirts in the back and a bowl of half eaten cereal with milk in it.

Once in Baton Rouge when I lived in an apartment complex off Perkins. Stole the face off my radio. I normally took it in with me but I was lazy that day. Was more pissed about the broken window than the missing radio.
Most car break ins I hear about these days are unlocked cars. Lots of guns stolen that way. So stupid.

The thing is....her alarm didn't go off. We walked up to it the next day, both doors weren't closed all of the way, and the driver's seat was pulled off of the plastic backing. Dick move
