I went from working 60+ hours a week and making 95k yo working 40 or less making 55k. I couldn't be happier.
I was a shore tankerman. Now I'm a table games dealer.

I did that for a couple years while taking a break from college.
Any job is better than that

My wife is about to switch careers from an insurance account executive to a director of home operations.
Big pay decrease but she seems excited.

I switched early 30s. Was bored with the path I was on and gave up a pretty decent salary at the time. Took a 20k hit on salary but it paid off in about 5 years. Don’t settle on a career path that isn’t a good fit. There’s always room for intelligent and hard working people to break through in a new field.

All through my 20’s I was a lazy, no-good philanderer spoiled by old family money. By my early 30’s I became tired of that lifestyle and wanted to give something back to my country, so I became an astronaut.

Well it was just before 30.
Quit teaching K12 at 28. Got a fellowship to get a free masters with a stipend. Thought I’d get a PhD to become a professor or at worst finish with an MA and do tech writing. Almost went PhD but dropped out. Wrecked my finances. Lived with my parents for a year. Put together multiple part time jobs for two years.
Headed back at 33 to a K12 teaching job. I’ve chosen...poorly.

She's actually not like that at all. Just trying to peel some OT scabs.

Switched careers at 29. I turn 30 in a couple months. Check back in a few years, and I'll let you know how it went.

I was making a killing in the mortgage biz till 2006.
Despite 4 employers going out of business in 2007, I still made almost 6 figures.
After the 4th employer bankruptcy, I switched to insurance sales (personal lines). Basically, I took a job a kid out of high school could take (but it has great benefits). I worked about 60 hours a week to build a book.
10 years later, my income is the same as 2006, but I am working from home and about 20 fewer hours per week.
I've had great job offers, but they would be for more hours, worse commute, and start out at lower pay. It was a tough transition from the mortgage biz, but it has worked out great.

Hurricane Katrina helped me change careers in my 30s. It has pretty much been awful since.

A friend of mine closed his comic book shop and started working on the downstream side of the drug trade. He said the money is great but he fears his body will end up in one place and his head in another.

Pharma/biotech sales for ten years out of college.
Got fed up with that rat race and decided to go to dental school. Starting my 16th year of practice ownership and couldn’t be happier.
