There was a fellow who did 19 years for raping a girl I know. He was exonerated by DNA evidence. The real perpetrator was finally caught. He was already locked up and had never said a word. He had let his little brother do 19 years.

On subject - the second season of Making a Murderer features a non-profit group that specializes in getting innocent prisoners freed, I think it's called the Innocence Project.
This group alone has gotten 17 innocent people released, so all this DOES exist in real life and not just a John Grisham book.
