How many of you guys left your plant job and what did you go do?

I work shift work at a local plant. Been there a year and a half and find it extremely unfulfilling. Money is nearly double compared to my previous job and I was able to buy a house and do things I would have never been able to do with my old salary. While I'm not in an extreme hurry to leave, I know that I don't want to do this forever. I don't feel stimulated at all and feel like I'm wasting away with monotonous work.
Who here has left plant work for something else and what did you go do? Did you find it to be an easy transition? I struggle with the idea of taking a pay cut because I'm already accustomed to a certain way of life. It should be noted that I'm not an operator. I don't pull in 6 figs and I'm closer to around 60k.
Thoughts?

Work for a real company and start pulling down that 160k like a true plant baller

I'm in a similar position man. Just left a job I enjoyed to work for a company back here in LA. I make significantly more money, but company sucks. It's ran by an older guy that still runs a business like it's the 80s. If he had any competition whatsoever, he'd be out of business.
I know this has been absolutely no assistance to you in your situation, but I took this as an opportunity to vent. Thanks, I feel a little better
Good luck to you.

Find a legitimate online business degree program. Reach out to your plant's HR personnel to let them know you're pursuing a degree. Reach out to your plants Procurement Manager/Finance Dept. Let them know you're interested in the field. You will have a leg up with your knowledge of the plant once you get into a Purchasing position.
ETA - I'm in Purchasing and really enjoy it. I work a 9/80 schedule and fricking love it.

Shift work/plant work isn't for everyone. Life is too short to be miserable.
That said, I just hate work in general. If I'm going to be miserable I might as well make a good wage while I am.

Very few people stay happy with any job over a long period of time. Wages afford your standard of living. How do you want to live?

This is such an outdated mindset.
You must be over 40.
People nowadays have career options. If they do not enjoy what they do, they can change. Case in point: OP.
Money can't buy happiness and fulfillment. Search what you want to do, try it out, if it doesn't work, continue your pursuit.
What is that adage: Find a job you live, and you'll never have to work a day again in your life.
I have been:
A HS Teacher
Restaurant Manager
Public Policy Researcher/Lobbyist
Clean Energy Marketer
And now run an insurance agency.
To the OP: Keep searching!

Bud's Uncle Bob left the Plant feet first and went to the eternal graveyard shift.

Go to PTEC school so you can be an operator, and pull six figs. Ops might not stimulate you, but the ability to provide (well) for your family, and have great benefits is usually reason enough to pursue a career in operations.
That's what I tell myself, anyway. Although, I don't know either if I will stay in Ops the rest of my career. Luckily, I have the option (a little later) to move within my organization if I want to do so. I just really despise a 5 on/2 off schedule that the working world thinks as normal.

I felt the same exact way you do...
unfortunately, my hand was forced and I was laid off... my humble advice to you would be to appreciate what you have because I honestly do miss it now.. say what you want about the refineries but you do meet a lot of good people out there (some batshit crazy ones too )
I didn't think I'd struggle for so long trying to find a job once I became unemployed

Ever though about branching out and starting up that competition? You probably already know the trade, and there isnt other competition in the field, why not capitalize on it?
