Of course not, but if I noticed it (which there is no guarantee that would happen), I'd go inside and let them know. I'd let them decide how to handle it.

Exactly.

I'm genuinely surprised people don't share the same opinion on this topic. I thought the OT hated thieves.

Yea, you can do that. In the midst of that chaos, I'm sure that cashier tells you not to worry about it. But if a good night's sleep is that hard to come by, and you aren't a normal person who just thinks the analog counter is off, I respect the effort.

I'm not one to come back with my camper, but I'm probably just saying "huh, that's weird" and going on with my life. Guess I'm a thief.

I remember Lowe's ran an ad on carpet with a misprintrr price like 2 decades ago. My dad saw it and went by to see if it was a typo or to see how they were handling it. The store manager was aware and said they'd honor the ad with their stock on hand, but it had to be a particular color or whatever. My dad didn't like the color so he didn't bother buying any, but if he had, that's a much different situation. Taking advantage of a pricing error that a retailer is aware of and will honor is substantially different than filing up as many tanks as you can before they catch their error.

Maybe, but if you get a receipt for 11.82 gallons for $.30, then post it to Facebook, you can't claim ignorance.

Reminds me of the kids that used to reach up inside the vending machine and take shite

"Not my fault they didn't keep me out!"

Sounds like the same rationalizing drivel being posted by some in this thread

When I was at LSU, some baw loaded the ATM machine incorrectly and put the $20s in the $10 slot. The line was wrapped around the building of people taking out $10 at a time

If I rolled up and that ended up being the total I wouldn't care. Would just roll out. Wouldn't go out of my way to get it though and going back to get another car is trashy as frick

Let me guess, you find a $20 bill on the sidewalk and advertise it on Craigslist, right? Surely the rightful owner will get his money back.

Not remotely the same, in this situation you are well aware who the owner of the gasoline is, and the person responsible for selling it is 20 feet away.

A computer malfunction apparently caused the gas pumps at the Circle K on Highland Road at Staring Lane

Yeah right "computer malfunction." I used to do this all the time when I worked at a gas station in my early twenties. Change it in the middle of the night, fill up, then change it back.

So now he's made the clerk an accessory. That's not morally acceptable.

Would you knowingly take incorrect change from a cashier?

Yes.

I also half deposited half cashed a check at my bank once and she handed me an extra hundred cash on accident. Checked the account and she deposited the right amount I requested. Didn’t catch it till later on I wasn’t going to go back up there. That’s on them for screwing up

Fuel theft. If people did this and drove away, they should be charged with theft.

And I'm betting it wouldn't be the first time for them.

Just wanted to say that there’s a difference between the WIC card malfunction and this gas purchase.

One is using tax dollars from the public that the individuals didn’t “earn”.

One is paying a lesser price out of your own, earned dollars.

Also, I get there are ranges of what is morally right. I believe I would say something if I noticed it but Not sure I would offer to pay the difference or something. Hey, they fricked up. There has to be ramifications for a lack of control.

If you get charged .30 for something through a malfunction that you know is supposed to cost $30.00 and drive away, you are not "teaching them a lesson". You are taking advantage of a business owner's obvious temporary misfortune.

I can't believe some people would do that and honestly think it's the right thing to do. If the majority does, then society if worse off than even I suspected- which says a lot.

Nah, you've done your due diligence at that point. Morally unacceptable is a man who voluntarily drives a minivan.
