If it wasn't so racist it would've been a cruel hilarious joke.

That test was childlike.

If you missed any questions, you should be working the coal mines

I despise Buzzfeed's videos. The people that are in them are the absolute worst.

You only had ten minutes to basically do 3 pages in a riddle book.

I assume the answer would be "right" but what does "as you spelled here" have to do with it.

Once upon a time a fifth grade education meant something. I collect old textbooks and the dumbing down of America and the low standards are amazing.

The tests that have been posted on the internet may also be hoaxes as I don't think any true originals have been posted.

I'd write "right from left to right as you spelled here"

As you spell, as in spoke, H-E-R-E write right from left to right.

I can see how they had trouble with it; it required common sense.

The answers are subjective. That is the point.

ETA: not enough information os given to remove ambiguity. Any test can be thrown out based on a different interpretation of the question. Can you not see that?

This Slate author has been looking for a real version of this literacy test for quite some time. The current copy was put together by a word processor and is obviously not an original.

From court records it appears most were asked to just read a section of the Louisiana Constitution.

A basic literacy test would have been just as easy to disenfranchise enough of the blacks without stooping to this.
