I'm typically in the blue, last year I was in the green and had to just pay federal income taxes on that shite, and now I am ready to move to a tax shelter island

What percent makes you a top earner? This chart is weird. I could be green in NJ, but if I'm right at 150, I'd only be top 20%, which I wouldn't consider top earner.

but $150k household isn't something to brag about. They need some tiers above that
Agree.

Louisiana fares better than most other Southern states thanks to the petrochemical industry.
The graph shows the only other southern state with more households below $50k is MS. And only two states in the entire country. Oil jobs may be helping out the top tier, but 54% of the state is in poverty.

Here's a site that let's you see how your salary compares to others in the world.
According to this, I'm in the top 0.06 percentile in the world, which ranks me as the 3,457,947th richest person.
Edit: My monthly income could pay the monthly salaries of 922 doctors in Malawi.

quote:That's actually not a bad thing. Texas can handle oil prices at record lows because their economy is so diverse. $1/gallon gas is devastating for Louisiana. A little diversification would help you guys.
Yet Governor Honor Code doesn’t want any more petrochemical jobs here, he would just as soon they all go to Texas.

1998 doctors in Malawi.
Roughly.

It's not going to diversify. Oil and lawyers...

2 ppl both making that is well over 25K
A lot of single mothers and Baby Daddies in Louisiana. Not every household has 2 sources of income, at least not officially. That would mess up their government benefits...

Your bar graph needs higher numbers.

In the green for Georgia.
My wife was recently pissed we didn't get a tax return, I explained to her we're in the upper income earners - "No we aren't, we aren't rich!".
I'll show this to her.
I've almost flipped her to the republican party. If they would knock it off with the bible thumping shite, I would have already flipped her.

So we have a decent % of people making a good living in LA, just a massive amount making almost nothing. Who knew?

You should explain to her that you file a tax return. If you over pay and get some money back it's called a refund.
And also you can get a refund as a high earner or owe as a low earner.

Not only that, there were lots of credits and whatnot we used to get when she was in school, with a baby, and a single income earner (me). Not just overpaying tax, but basically getting IRS welfare (thanks Obama!).
Graduate, get good job, start paying taxes, welcome to the Republican Party.
