Sadly it ended with my grandparents. They didn't pass it on to their kids.

I remember my great grandparents and my grandparents speaking it a lot around the house when I was younger. When I was born, my dad asked them to only speak French in front of me in the hopes that I could grow up bilingual, but I guess after my great grandparents passed away, the grandparents didn't have a reason to coninue speaking it and the language died down

Cajun French is a damn near extinct language. I wonder exactly how many people in Louisiana are actually fluent in it. Can't be too many left and it a damn shame.

I do. I decided to take French as my foreign language sequence at LSU and ended up making it my major. Always trying to find work where I'll get to use it, but man is that tough.
My maternal grandfather's mother was the last relative of mine who grew up truly speaking French. I enjoy trying to bring it back.

Learning it now on Rosetta Stone. Slow process.

I have a friend who has the same problem, but his language is Greek. His parents were immigrants to the U.S. shortly before he was born. They spoke almost exclusively Greek around the house. Since his parents passed, he has no one to speak Greek with anymore.

I talked to a woman from France the other day. She said Louisiana French is Old French and she has difficulty understanding it when she is in Louisiana.

This.
Fluent is gone.
I know if your cursing me. 50% of my great grandparents spoke zero English.
Early in my career we'd get old patients who spoke French and had dementia. Co workers were slack jawed when I could throw something back at them or knew that they were just cursing us.

It appears to have faded out with our parents/ grandparents generation. I can usually comprehend French due to taking a few years of basic classes, but I've no chance in having a conversation. I'd love to travel to a French speaking place and stay for at least a month.

Sounds like my story. Ended up double majoring and studied over there during the summer. I learned a lot as a kid, but I can speak exclusively in it with my maw maw, which is good for her cause her parents and brothers have all passed. I don't have kids yet, but I plan to teach them one day.
Tough trying to get a job where I can use it regularly besides teaching, if you find one let me know. Lol.

Haha. Nice Google try, but your grammar and conjugation is a bit off. Try again.

It didn't get transferred to the younger generations.
