Just curious to know if any/many families of French heritage still keep the language? By speak I mean fluent or close to it.

Thanks!

I only know the curse words and insults passed down from Grandmaw. Full fluency died out with her.

Yeah, didn't think too many folks in LA did. But it's essentially the same thing, just lots of older phrases they don't use over there today and a different accent.

I'm learning it on Duolingo now. It's fun. I would say I'm Beginner to Intermediate.

It got beat out of the kids in school, literally. It's a shame that it's faded out so much.

I think they are about the same but Duolingo is less boring. RS is BORING.

Personally, I think they both suck at teaching the language. I do better picking up a workbook with explanations.

I'm not a child, so stop teaching me like I'm a child. Give me conjugations and explanations and I'll thrive.

I consider myself semi-fluent. Growing up in Lafayette Parish, unless your English scores were shite, you started taking French in the fourth grade. While it isn't Cajun French, it's the community's way of trying to keep it alive. The French Immersion programs and various other cultural programs has helped maintain the Cajun culture in Acadiana pretty well. Although it will never be what it once was.

Never heard of him, but I like sinik and shurik'n. Really got into French rap after living there during college. I prefer it to the crap we call rap over here.
