Yeah there are several in BHM. There's one over in front of the grocers place near 78 that was good years ago. Haven't been there in a while so it may not be open.

But what I miss is a Shoney's breakfast buffet. Every Friday morning in HS the football team and cheerleaders would meet there for breakfast around 7. Eventually word got out and more kids from school would come. I need to see if we even have a shoneys in BHM.

Been a while since I've been there. Was pretty solid though.

I work not 5 minutes from The Cedar House. Use to eat there pretty regularly... until I noticed they had a health Dept score in the 70s. That was a few years ago though so it may be better now.

Smoke house steak and seafood on Finley is the one I was thinking about. And we don't have Shoney's. Closest is Clanton.

Morrisons' still exists as a food service caterer. They handle the cafeteria at Brookwood Hospital, in Birmingham, or they did nine years ago when the wife and I were there.

Darth mentioned K-Mart. They used to have a kick-arse sub sandwich when I was a kid. They sold fresh sliced ham luncheon meat with a sugar glaze on it that was awesome.

I used to love watching the trays, filled with dirty plates and glasses, go on to the conveyor belt to be cleaned.

Why was this so thrilling as a kid? The conveyor had me hypnotized. Begged to go put stuff on it to watch it disappear.

The civilians have it pretty good. For $4 you can get an enormous loaded burrito or nachos enough for 2 people at the cafeteria I used to eat at on the Redstone Arsenal. They have excellent food and who doesn't love not paying sales tax?

Used to go to Piccadilly often with my grandparents as a child. My go to meal was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and of course cubed jello. Haven't been in a while but my go to is chopped beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, garlic bread and either chocolate pie or chocolate chip pecan pie. It's very disappointing that they don't say serve you anymore though.

State Trooper's Cafeteria and Woman's Hospital are both pretty good. The building that I work in now has a cafeteria in it that is run by Louis DeAngelo. It's pretty decent and very convenient.

No mention of Davis Brothers Cafeteria...as a child after church always finished off with strawberry pie. They have been closed for many years I believe.

Last trip to a real chain type maybe 15 years ago to S&S in Atlanta.

Now I want to go to Picadilly for nostalgia

But I'm pretty sure the one in Covington isn't top notch
