Meh, I was at a client site this week in Colorado and met people from Denver, Detroit, Dallas, and Nashville who all knew Lafayette, mostly due to college sports (I asked how they knew about it). Do you think these same people know about Lake Charles?

Again, Lafayette and Acadiana are not nearly as well-known as you locals like to believe. I’m telling you. It’s nola, br/Shreveport, then LC/Monroe. Lafayette is definitely confused with Monroe frequently due to the colleges and duck dynasty.

Scruffy lived in Shreveport for 4 years and after traveling around the US and Europe, especially during that time, no one knows Shreveport.

And based on that, Scruffy can guarantee that Monroe is likely in the same boat.

Amazing how many people in Texas seem to think Lake Charles/Lafayette is New Orleans’s neighbor.

Is it? I’m willing to bet the average person in Lousiana couldn’t tell me the distance between Tupelo and Meridian.

I traveled for work for a decade to 35-40 different states. Once you get out of the South everyone knew Nola, a majority of people knew BR because of state capital/LSU. Most didn't know anything else about Louisiana unless they had some ties to the area

Truth.

Honestly, all the people Scruffy has met who knew New Iberia and Lafayette, they knew someone or had ties there.

This idea that Shreveport and Monroe are well-known is absolutely false.

People who live in LA don’t even visit those places.

Hell, before Scruffy moved there, he had never been to Shreveport and Scruffy had lived in LA 21 years prior to that point. He may have played a HS baseball game there or something once.

Fans of old country music will have heard of Shreveport b/c of the Hayride. Otherwise, as the city was so memorably described in a book about Sun Records, "Shreveport Louisiana, two hundred miles from Dallas and hundreds of miles from anywhere else..."

The Hayride is probably the most significant cultural institution LA has produced outside NO, unless you count something like Cajun food as one thing.

Yes. If you can’t name at least 2 cities in any state you are hopelessly ignorant.

I’m guessing it’s at least 1.5 hours or 2 hours plus. I know the distance from meridian to Tuscaloosa unfortunately.

What I meant was when I tell people I’m from the New Orleans area the response I usually get is, “oh, my wife/husband has family there”. And I ask where exactly, and they’ll say Lake Charles, Lafayette etc.

How many cities/towns can you name in Wisconsin?

Off the top of my head: Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, and La Crosse. After looking at the map I saw a few others I had heard of.
