You can have up to 500 ratings affect your overall rating before each rating falls off and, unlike Lyft (where if you don't rate you get five stars and Lyft will drop your lowest rating), Uber doesn't drop any ratings and only about half the people rate.

So if you have 400 rides, you might have 200-250 ratings, so each individual rating means more. Whereas, if you have 2000 rides, you have the full 500 ratings, so each individual rating means less.

Plus, as a new driver, you are just figuring out how it works and trying to work the app, so you're more likely to screw up.
