I'm as big of a nerd as the next IT/crypto/dev geek, but man I have never understood basically any collectibles, but especially Funko Pops. Shits the cringest of the cringe

Uhh, yeah that’s the way the market works
what anyone is willing to pay at a given time based on rarity.
Apparently certain beanie babies are still selling for thousands
I’m just saying you’re wrong that they’ll be worthless as the beanie baby argument fails as well

Ty’s Princess Bear for $20,000. The sale took place on eBay in November 2022.
Most of those Beanie Baby sales on eBay are bullshite and never actually happen FYI.
What you would need to do is find a confirmed sale from like an auction house but you can't because they are worthless.
Also, the Beanie Baby craze ended in 1999 so if there is one worth anything today that means it took 24 years for one of them to go up in value.
Funko will pop and they too will take decades for any of them to potentially go up in value.

My stepkid likes these. It’s a cheap and easy gift. My husband even has a few select ones.
Kids getting them is one thing. It's grown men collecting them and spending thousands that is cringe and the point of my OP

Not gonna lie, the Messi one is pretty cool.

That looks like a perfectly healthy obsession undertaken by very balanced individuals.

Unless you can pull prices from 1999 to the present you’re just making shite up. Are they mostly worthless? Yes because they were mass produced. But certain items that have low population will always be valuable

I’ve seen those things before but didn’t know they’re called Funko Pops. Seems like a better name would be Flunko Pop.

Get back with me in 5-10 years. They will absolutely be worthless when the craze ends. Can a few retain some value? Sure that is possible. Will that $200K one still be worth that when the craze ends? Very doubtful.

The funniest one is the guy in the second picture. He does that weird crap but he’s trying to put out a bad arse vibe.

What do you think Funkos are?

Again, if any are worth anything today it took 24 years to reach that once the craze ended.
Go to any Goodwill or garage sale and you are likely to find Beanies people stashed away waiting for the prices to come back.
Funkos will suffer the same fate.

It’s no different than the Charizard craze. They were sitting at like $10k in 2016 then Logan Paul got ahold of it and they started going for $150k, then a year later $500k during the pandemic

And now?
Didn't it all crash from the high?

Do you not understand that certain models are limited population? That’s what makes these thousands of dollar sales happen

It’s a market fluctuation, what’s your point? Because there is a “crash” (still 10x the value of a few years ago) means nothing in the grand scheme of things

I usually don't care that grown men collect things, but this is one I never understood. It's a rubber doll with zero function that will have zero value just like beanie babies. At least cards, comics, etc can hold some value and even give you entertainment assuming you read the comic. These are ugly hunks of rubber from pop culture that you put on a shelf. That's it.
Mostly nostalgia. Brings people back to a happier time in their lives (childhood) and taps into the human condition to accumulate things.
Most people collect things, some even unknowingly. These incels have chosen worthless plastic in a rectangular box.

Ummm yea it does. It means the demand is dying. It's not just a crash but has also shown a steady decline correct?
You are making my point for me.

Never even heard of these things but wouldn't someone think it's weird to amass three thousand of these things and not think they're somewhat worthless or you just have a bunch of common ones

I understand that. You are missing the point that part of their price is hype due to the market of the Pops overall. Once the craze dies down (as you said it is doing I have no idea like you do because I don't collect them like you do) so will the price of the "rare" ones. It's natural.
