Widespread coral bleaching is absolutely due to rising sea temperatures. Corals are very fragile and a prolonged 2-3 degree rise could wipe out entire colonies.

Florida is however battling a major manmade disaster. Invasive lion fish are wiping out reefs from the keys all across the Caribbean.

Sunscreen is not allowed on many international dive sites. Fortunately, there are reef safe alternatives.

I`m a conservative and I can believe it. I do take comfort in knowing that our earth will recover.

Private companies can directly fund "research" to promote their agenda. Even if it's not accepted by the scientific community, it's gets put out there to the public. It's a marketing tool.

Mine is the first and fifteenth. I knocked my tanks out Friday.

Coworkers at my office love my nano so much the boss gave me cash to buy more fish.

Back to the main op topic, I'm glad to see aquariums using captive breeding programs to limit wild collections.

Where are you located? I could use some GSP.

I'm unsure why it is so controversial to say that humans are having an effect on climate change.

We drive cars, burn coal, dump trash in the ocean, and are cutting down rainforests. It seems pretty obvious that these activities would have a negative effect on the planet.

A prime example is Exxon's "research" where they manipulated graphs to show data in their favor.

I think they've both fudged the numbers in their favor. The oil companies have certainly had an impact on Louisiana's coast line.

Because the people saying that we aren't have a vested financial interest in saying that human activity is not having any effect. Or they have bought into the rhetoric of those who do have that interest against their own interest. It all comes down to money and who is paying off who.

Eta: At the very least it should be clear that human activity has some significant negative effect on our environment, even if you don't go full climate change. Especially if you live in Louisiana. There is clear evidence of the effects. But this is what we live with. People who argue against what is clearly happening before their very eyes.

It is simple greed.

Which is unfortunate.

There are tons of micro-level examples of humans having a negative impact on the local environment. However, when this discussion is expanded to a global level, people lose their minds.

I would say that very few people here have actually been to either reef or know much at all about them...so anything they believe or disbelieve would based purely on political rhetoric, which is complete bullshite on both sides.

Coral reefs have died many times over the ages. They will die again. It is inevitable.

I've always known the climate changes on Earth. It's the liberals that seem to believe it has been and should be static.

Would you call building a levee to stop flooding a negative impact?

Probably so, but it's necessary to prevent harm to humans.

Is spraying for mosquitoes harming the environment by killing other insects? Probably so, but it's necessary to stop the spread of diseases.

Cutting trees down, drilling for oil, mining coal, etc. all affect the environment, but all these activities keep people sheltered, they keep humans warm, they provide food and make civilization stable.

Man can not not impact the environment, but man can be good stewards and do a better job of limiting his impact.

But no matter what man does, the climate is going to change, sea levels will rise and fall, continents will drift, and we will continue to see eruptions of volcanoes and earthquakes and hurricanes. Things will constantly change whether we like it or not,

Exactly, but the nature SJWs won't talk about it honestly. They start off with argumentative fallacies like the OP's straw man and then the equally argumentative deficient do what they do and we are never able to have productive conversations.
