How many dads are driven to suicide or other problems by custody fights?

Buddy of mine is being put through the ringer by his witch of an exwife. I've known him well for years. Cares about his kids. They are teens. Tries to do right by them. Mommy went on the warpath. Made all kinds of allegations, was connected, got his rights revoked without notice, and he is now fighting to get his rights back. I won't get into the details as here is why I am posting:
How many dads have gotten depressed, had emotional problems, or even committed suicide because of these custody fights. My friend is ok as much as can be expected and won't do anything dumb but I can see what it is doing to him on the inside as well. How many dads are torn up on the inside as this guy is with rage and helplessness? I know the system inside and out. I've seen the system used and abused against women as well but people rarely discuss the effects it has on dads. Discuss.

Meh. His kids are old enough. I have heard worse, like finding out the 2-3 year old isn't yours, and the courts making you still pay child support.

It's highly unfortunate that the kid's well being aren't thought of first (by the parents) in situations such as this. Sounds like the ex-wife is a Grade A count.

Tell him too look around for an attorney who specifically represents fathers.
These are usually nasty people who can turn his situation around.
Blah blah blah, lawyers suck I know. But this is a situation he needs to have a good one.

If your dumb enough to get married then I have no sympathy

He's been divorced for years and has good lawyers. Kids are 12 and 15. Mommy has no limits or boundaries on them. They can to what they want, of course.

Im going through the same thing right now. False allegations by my wife. She just put a restraining order on me saying I am physically abusive and i tried to strangle her. Ive never laid a hand on her.
To answer your question its really taking a toll on me. I have thoughts of suicide but I would never do that but going through this with a 3 and 4 year old it kills me inside. And when your son cries for you to come home and you cant because of a crazy wife is unbearable.

Custody battles can be such a terrible thing, especially if one of the parents decides to be destructive. I have never known anyone to commit suicide over a custody battle but I have seen a few people financially and emotionally devastated by it. It's amazing that people that were once in love are able to treat each other so badly.

What the frick is wrong with her? How can a decent human being not want whats best for their own child?

Hang in there brother and remember that your children need you around, not six feet under. I will pray for you and your family.

A lot. The legal system is heavily weighted in favor of the women, and many of women take full advantage of it. I know a couple of people personally who have essentially lost any real control over their kids' lives because of this.
Basically every time I hear about an ex-husband murdering an ex-wife, I wonder if this sort of shite is the cause.

Shes just an evil person. It didnt come out until I said "I Do""

The group with the highest risk for suicide are men between 45 and 64. That's also when most men get divorced. There is a correlation.

Truly evil people are very good at hiding it until they are ready to take advantage of those around them.

It's really a sad commentary honestly..Women are given an enormous amount of power in this state when is comes to this.
My X wife is by far one of the biggest piece of shite do nothing mothers around.. I've tried on 3 occasions to take my children to no avail..
Hell one time she admitted to the judge to drinking and driving with my children and they did nothing...It really fricking sucks.
I can certainly sympathize with what hes going through.
Just tell him to hang in there and its good that they are teens b/c that bullshite is nearly over.

Happened to a buddy of mine. Then they tried to argue that they didn't owe the support back, and then tried to argue that they should be able to claim the children as exemptions until age 18 after all of that.
Sucks.

How can parental rights get pulled for kids that old? I thought they had some say in this stuff when they were older, especially the 15 year old. They are certainly old enough to get on the stand and substantiate/refute the mom's allegations.

i'm going to give some free advice to people and tell you not to post your own personal stories on here about divorce
the last thing you want is to have to discuss with a judge why you're saying x, y, or z negative things about a current custody case
your anonymity on here only goes so far

I never had thoughts like this... I was depressed beyond belief.. My EX. Took my kids and hid them away for alomost a year... Her family was heavy involved in helping here do this... It was anightmare as my daughter was 12 and son was 10. There lives were changed for the worse until I got back involved with them.... My 1st born daughter still to this day wants nothing to do with me by the things they put into her head.... I have a granddaughter that I have ever seen.. She is ten now and lives just Miles from me with foster parents... Just don't want to disrupt what she is doing in life I guess...
But I was lucky that I had support from family that helped me through it. and as well as meeting a woman who had a real idea of what life should be about....
