don't do it

You'll regret it quick

Life is too short to spend 10+ hours a week just getting to and from work

66 miles each way. I live in the sticks of SW Ms and work in BR. I’ve been doing it for 12.5 years and actually enjoy the peace and quiet.

Over the past several years I’ve gone from 10 minute commute each way to 1 hr to 10 steps. IMO the quality of the drive varies greatly and not just by time or distance. Facing a long commute makes a big difference if you can leave home/work a little earlier to avoid the grind time.

Northshore to downtown NO sucks if done everyday and rush hour. Any deviation makes it more tolerable. Some days are nothing and some are almost PTSD.

~40min each way but I only go in once a week right now.

Will probably have to start going 3x a week soon

Half hour door-to-door, whether I drive or take the El (unless I mistime the train)

ETA: that’s about the limit I’ll do these days. Old job used to be 25 in the morning and 40-60 at night. Don’t care to waste that much time going to and from anymore.

Yeah, f all that. My commute is an hour, but I get to carpool with my wife who works about 8 miles away from my work and my son goes to a daycare about 3 miles away from my work. I commuted from River Ridge to BR for a year, and it was the most miserable time of my life. You begin by hating the commute and quickly hate the job for being the cause of your commute.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. I work shift work so only 14 days a month scheduled. The hardest part is coming off nights. I usually am driving into the sun on the last part of it .
We left Denham Springs for a piece of property we inherited. Our house is in the middle of it. The kids can hunt, fish , trap and all the stuff you can’t do in a subdivision. Best move we ever made.

My commute is 5-7 minutes now. Years ago I had an hour commute. The drive to work wasn’t bad but the drive home sucked. I couldn’t imagine having that kind of commute with children, which I didn’t have at the time.
