Went in late October to the post office-passport office in Baton Rouge, no appointment and no line. Was told 4-6 weeks, but it came in about 3 weeks. We did not pay for expedited service. Birth certificate was mailed back about a week after passports arrived.
We filled out the forms online and printed them out to bring with us, so that made the office visit go quicker too.

It normally takes me just a few hours at the NO passport office at canal Place. It really cost not much more. I keep a second passport and it is only valid for two years so it seems like I am always there. lol
If you go this route schedule your appointment late morning, all the passports are completed at the same time regardless of what time you came in that morning.

Wife and I just renewed. Check was written on 11/10/15 and we got both passports before last week. 3 to 4 weeks with no extra paid to express them.

Seems like there are a lot of people with new passports in here. I cannot stress enough how much you will want to go ahead and get your Global Entry set up. It is only $100 (free for AMEX Platinum members) and worth every penny.
When coming back in the US you will skip a ton of standing around in Customs. You'll also get a Trusted Traveler number that will let you bypass a lot of TSA bullshite (depending on the airline) when flying out of the country.

This thread reminded me I need to get my wife's updated. We have traveled outside the country since our honeymoon and have yet to get her name changed...
Anyone know how long that takes? Is it quicker?

I thought this was highly illegal?

nope, Lots of people have two passports. It enables you to send one of for foreign visa's and still be able to travel on the second.
The restriction is that the second is only valid for two years unlike the standard 10 years.
ETA: never ever ever enter a foreign country with one and try to leave with the other, bad shite tends happen quickly.
They will also have different passport numbers.

Now that I think about it, the one for Israel might be out of date. I might only have one. Need to look into that...

Why would anyone even want one of these?
Posted on 12/17/15 at 3:17 pm to TechDawg2007
If you do not need it till the first week of April then standard processing should be fine. I needed to have my passport renewed and the company paid for it to be expedited it took ~a week.

You won't have a problem. I'm getting ready to reapply for mine. They've always been delivered within a month.

Unless she got her passport within the last 12 months she will have to pay the full passport fee all over again. Takes about 4-6 weeks to process....just like a regular passport. She will have to retake pics and mail her old passport in with the pics and paperwork and marriage certificate(you can request to get old one back if she wants to keep it for any stamps she already has in her passport).

I did mine as well AFTER the honeymoon and I didn't expedite it and I think mine came in like 4-5 weeks for the passport to arrive and another couple weeks to get back my old passport and marriage certificate.
