How long do you stay at visitation?

An old boss of mine passed on and I went to the viewing/visitation this evening. I sat in a “pew” at the funeral home and said a little prayer for the family. I watched the video of photos put together by the funeral home. As I sat there, I wondered how long I should remain out of respect.
In the end, I committed to watching the video until the end of the loop and left.
Sidebar: got a call from a HSGF when I got home to find out my best friend from HS was found dead in his car. I haven’t talked to him in seven (or so) years. I’m thinking of making the drive in to Austin in to pay respects. Again, how long do you stay?

If it's a big crowd, sign the book, go through the receiving line and you're free to go unless you feel moved to stay or a family member wants you to. If it's sparsely attended, hang around a while and show some support.

Till you are full of bad coffee and stale donuts.

If, and only if, the HSGF is hot, just long enough to bang the HSGF.

Depenss on how well you liked the person.
If you liked them 1 hour to 1 & 1/2 hours.
If you didn't like them, 2 & 1/2 hours to 3 &1/2 to take in the enjoyment.

Six minutes.
One minute walking through the door and casually signing the visitor book.
Two minutes in line.
One minute saying nice things to the family.
One minute sliding toward the back of the room.
One minute waiting for a slight commotion, then out the door.

Depends on how well you knew them or their family. If you weren’t particularly close, stay for a few to pay your respects and chat with some folks you know then go.

every obit I have seen recently literally says, please do not linger.

I used to go early and sign the book if it’s out and then get the frick out of there as fast as humanly possible.

Go in, pet the little fella on the head, and bounce.

Easy, you follow the wear pattern of the carpet. 30 seconds per pinkish floral pattern section. Works great and people think you are being reverent by bowing your head.
