How long did you go out, how often, and when did you stop?

I drank on the weekends at parties freshman and sophomore year of HS but got a girlfriend junior year and was pretty much just a big stoner during that time. We broke up right before I turned 21 and I started going out when I turned 21 (never had a fake).

It’s been a few years and I still like it but I’ve been single all this time and feel like I should settle down and get a girlfriend. Stop wasting my money on drinking and trying to bang girls at bars (only works out like 1/4 times I go out). My friends have started to mostly cut back too, kind of.

I have a good prospect for a GF but she doesn’t drink at all and kind of resents me for going out even though she makes it seem like she doesn’t care. I don’t know what I want. I know I need to stop at some point but it’s a lot of fun. I always told myself I would quit drinking completely around 28-30 but maybe I should severely cut back already. How did y’all know when it was time to stop going to bars or at least settle down and get a GF? The worst part is some of my friends are in their late 20s and still go out all the time so I kind of feel like a bitch for not wanting to do the same thing.

What is your definition of “going out?”

I go to a bar and have a few drinks with the baws every few weeks.

By going out I mean spending the entire weekend drinking cause that’s pretty much what I’ve done since I turned 21. I guess when did you make the transition from doing that to just casually going out for some drinks at a dive or sports bar?

I never thought I'd get married right out of undergrad, but when you meet someone who makes an awesome mate, what are you going to do, just throw it away for some arbitrary age?

I have never drank alone and don’t find much enjoyment in it. I like going to bars with friends. If I didn’t do that I probably wouldn’t drink at all

That shite gets old the older you get.

Every once in a while, like during football season, I’ll go out tailgating,

I can’t tell you the last time closed the bar down though, it gets old and expensive.

A great night out to me is like last night.

Took kids to see Jaws 3D. (They LOVED it) and then got ice cream. In bed by 1030

If I’m going out now it’s to shoot pool. And I’m home we’ll before midnight.

The crazy years are behind me

A night in playing board games or watching old British comedy is so much more appealing now than going out to the bar until 2 am.

Although karaoke…I’m still down for that

The bartender at the bar up the street sets a coors light and a shot of Jim beam on the bar when my truck pulls up. I'm usually home by 7 though.

Haven't "been out" past 10 or so at a bar in a few years.

I don’t really believe there is *just* 1 person out there for all of us. Maybe I’ve been single so long I can’t stop/don’t know how to date again. I have met tons of great girls but none of them ever made me want to stop going out with friends, always much more fun than just hanging at a house with some chick.

Then don't feel pressured to stop. Keep enjoying yourself if you're not hurting yourself or anyone else. You'll know when you know.

I basically stopped “going out” when Covid happened. I’m 28 now and have since gotten married so my bar hopping days are in the past. Still drink at home/out at dinner though.

But seriously, you’ll like it less by your mid-30’s when hangovers stick with you for days. And if not, you’ll make new friends at places like The Icehouse, and you’ll be able to party into your 40’s with the help of coke. Those friends will start dying off in their 50’s from heart problems.

People go out? Up at 5 a.m. all week keeps me from being a night owl. Don't go many places without the kids because I want them to experience things instead of being left at home with a babysitter like I was. If the wife and I do go out, its a quick dinner, movie, or concert, but those are few and far between. My favorite "going out" is driving up to Kisatchie and doing an overnight with the wife.

I pretty much had to stop going out, in the partying sense at clubs and such, in my mid 20s....maybe 25/26. It got to be a problem and was going to cause issues.

It was funny, one weekend I was there and the next I wasn't. I popped up at a bar a couple years later and people had legitimately thought I'd died.

I had been dating a girl fairly seriously at the time. We still went out, but more to restaurant bars instead of the club scene. I'd binge drink every time I went to a club or bar, but rarely drank much at home. If I had kept doing what I was doing I don't think it would have ended well.

Wife and I have a date night most weekends and go see live music to dance. Yes I'm a good dancer (swing, salsa, 2step, etc.). And before anyone criticizes dancing, it's the one place in society (even now) where the man is still expected to lead...I like that.

This doesn't always happen at a bar or place were alcohol is served, but most of the time does. We usually leave wherever by like 11. And yes we drink but not enough to get a hangover. I'm 60 and she's 53. We've met quite a few nice folks we hang out with (young and old) that we'll meet out wherever. No we're not swingers, we just like to have fun. So, it just depends.

My advice to you on this new GF prospect of yours is: MOVE ON. You do not want an insecure woman running your life. She'll never be satisfied with the control she has over you. Even if you give in and don't "go out" drinking w your friends but then want to go play golf with them or fishing, she's gonna have a problem with that too.

Drop this chick and find a woman who accepts you for who you are. They are out there.
