We wonder why insurance is so high. You are not alone...everyone is just f-it on the road today. At least you admit it.

Twice in the past 2 days I’ve almost been in serious wrecks because of people straight up blowing through red lights. Probably looking at their phone or something. Cops don’t seem to give a shite about enforcing traffic laws nowadays.

Some do this already if they have the sensors
Sensors are one step up from dumb timers. They’re still timers because they don’t change immediately when you pull up. Sensors suck just a little less.

I would love AI to take over traffic lights. I could imagine it would return massive efficiencies in big cities.

yep, I've had the same. Cops don't see to care about wild driving. People keep driving worse and worse.

I’ve often thought air travel control is a prime application for AI. Obviously will take a while to prove out and would still need human oversight, but it could easily track multiple flights and trajectories/potential conflicts to relieve humans of a great deal of stress and alert to developing problems

How soon do you think we will see AI dictating how long the light stays green if you are the only car at an intersection and there are no other cars coming from opposite ways?

They already use sensors or cameras and simple parameters to control the interactions like you described. AI is excessive for that function and would likely cost more.

They just put changed 2 intersections near me to basically ignore certain lanes if there is no vehicle detected when cycling the lights.

The main determination is need (they are busy intersections) and cost effectiveness (they were going to resurface the roads and could install the required equipment more easily).

If AI is ever employed in Louisiana for anything traffic related, I fully expect it to be at a level of mental retardation.

Most public works departments can't manage to maintain concrete and asphalt roads, but you think they can install, calibrate, and maintain an AI system?

Knoxville desperately needs help in this area. The timing on most of the lights here is straight trash.

For almost 5 years, I've had AI security cameras on my house that can identify People, pets and vehicles. No calibration was needed. Just plug them in, and they work. With the exception of removing spider-webs, no maintenance needed. Its not as difficult as you think.

I’m aware of some intersections having a sensor just below the pavementthat determines whether or not the turn arrow comes on,

The sensors have been around for 50 years and are for more than the turn arrow. It seems as though in your area they either don’t have sensors or they are misconfigured/broken.

Local, state and the federal government spent millions upon millions of dollars installing traffic sensors in pavement. Google said to heck with all of that and uses the aggregate gps signals from our phones to do the same thing. And it works better.
