That's a completely different argument than "these people have no more than five years left anyway let them die" which is very grotesque and which you have posted.

Not really.

If this continues to deteriorate then at a certain point that decision will have to be made.

And again, who says "let them die"?

I'm saying quarantine the high risk members of the populations, keep nursing homes and schools closed but at some point soon those who arent working will need to go back. The restaurant industry is crippled right now.

Because society is better adjusted to sending young men to die.

Sure we didnt want to lose thousands of soldiers in World War II but it was necessary for the greater good of the country.

Sure we dont want thousands of high risk people to die from coronavirus, but at some point it may become necessary for the greater good of the country.

If we save their lives but it sends us into a massive economic depression, then what did we accomplish?

Why risk the futures of millions of able bodied Americans to keep some people alive for a year longer than they may live anyway?

It isnt fair but life rarely is.

Human lives my dude. Human fricking lives are at stake.

Are you saying you believe that thousands of human lives are worth losing to prevent an economic downfall?

I don’t want to continue to watch hard working people struggling with no income. I don’t want to stress over my portfolio. But I damn sure don’t want to be someone who is okay with the death of so many people, so long as it prevents a massive economic depression.

Hey Fish. I think we are going to have a cure before the OP is able to get us killed off. Don't let him bother you though. He is not thinking this through. As a matter of fact, his whole position is gleaned from emotion.

I think OP is female.

Economic downfall has a very real human cost, including lots of deaths.

Some experts are saying a long term shutdown could send us into a downfall worse than the Great Depression.

Its estimated that 40,000 Americans died in the Great Depression from suicide alone.

How many has COVID19 killed?

Which position is really the one based on emotions?

Yet easier to come out of. There are many steps that can be taken before we get to the step where we put a bounty on old people. Some have said we will have food riots as early as next week.

They need to stop putting the ignorant on TV. The more ignorant tend to believe them.

Who said put a bounty on old people?

Again, keep them at home. Nobody visit Grandma for awhile. In the end, we all have to come out of our hiding places at some point though.

You said: Sure we dont want thousands of high risk people to die from coronavirus, but at some point it may become necessary for the greater good of the country.

You have placed a price on the sick, or elderly's head. That is a bounty.

I am willing to work an extra month or two before retiring to keep them alive. Line your spare cash up now so when the Dow really dumps, you are in a position to load up. It will easily offset any losses.

To your point even a War in the 19th century has never brought closures to so many industries in America. Mainly because all wars were fought overseas. My problem with this whole situation is what is the endgame, the government mentions the curve needs to be flattened. However they must know once they give the green light to resume society infections will start back up. Do we pause again and again and again? Eventually this thing will have to run its course.

Same. But how long before people have no savings and are on the verge of homelessness? The vast majority of Americans are in no position to not work for months on end.

My point exactly.

Why destroy the economy while only prolonging the inevitable?
