How is this different than war?

Sure we didnt want to lose thousands of soldiers in World War II but it was necessary for the greater good of the country.
Sure we dont want thousands of high risk people to die from coronavirus, but at some point it may become necessary for the greater good of the country.
If we save their lives but it sends us into a massive economic depression, then what did we accomplish?
Why risk the futures of millions of able bodied Americans to keep some people alive for a year longer than they may live anyway?
It isnt fair but life rarely is.

I say take as many precautionary measures as possible but lets not destroy America over this.

Could give two fricks about Tesla.
However when thousands are unemployed and businesses are shutting down just because we're scared of a virus affecting people who will likely die soon anyway, then there's a problem.

You’re comparing a flu-like illness to war?

No I'm asking why we're fine with young soldiers dying when there's a physical enemy threatening us yet we freak out when a flu like illness threatens to crash our economy.
Why wouldnt the response be the same?
Do the most beneficial thing for the biggest majority of the citizens.
We arent to that point yet but it wont be long if things keep going in the same direction.

We can either be Americans and care for our people or we’re no better than the fricking communists. You ready to vote for Bernie frickboy?

It is different from war, but it will never be different than war.

No problem with that but if this stays on the current track then we'll have thousands of unemployed people and shuttered businesses and depend on the government for survival.
Then we really will be Communists.

We’re not fine with our young soldiers dying. They signed up for it. We do things with our soldiers that minimizes losses just like we’re doing here.

The thousands that have been drafted didnt.

Well. To liken it to the current situation, we are trying to avoid the draft. Looks like the draft is coming and we get to choose who lives or dies. We are trying to minimize that draft

Friend,
The correct phrasing is different from, not different than. Please change your title, as poor grammar spreads like a virus.

I say keep all high risk people at home but let younger people function as normal.
There's no good answer here.
Keep the virus from spreading and kill the economy or vice versa.
However, in my opinion, the virus wont affect nearly as many as a depression would.
