It was a good discussion.

I want better, but this is better than the status quo,

According to the Business Report it also increases your millage on CoA and Library taxes. So it will increase your taxes.

frick the Business Report.

The "increase" is a reversal of those agencies "roll back" of property taxes which they could do even if the Thrive Plan fails to pass.

So we could pay more in property taxes no matter what.

Rolfe backed Broome and helped her get in.
He fought St George.
Now he’s undermining Sid.
He’s trying to take over City Park too.

He’s not our friend.

it's kind of a no win situation
defund the library which actually manages their money wisely or drastic cuts to other services (some of which is probably needed) because of St. George

This is why you should vote NO

Stealing from parish wide funds to support BR city.

Hell no!

This is why they tied it to the library renewal. It’s sleazy and I’m disappointed in Sid for doing this.

You mean raise taxes for people in the city of BR that’s been stealing money from outside the city for decades and decades. Clean up your own house BR.

Bingo!

And it’s not “seems”. That’s exactly what they are doing and they know it.

Fast forward to now and these entities are so flush with funds they have more money than they know what to do with.

Then why don’t they drop the fricking millages?

I pay almost the same property taxes as my parents who live in a neighboring parish and their house and property are twice the size of mine

No doubt Sid is equally disappointed in you for spreading lies.

ETA: From Mayor Sid Edwards in the Business Report.
quote:

We are grateful for the unprecedented and broad support that Thrive EBR has garnered, including that of all 12 Metro Council members; the mayors of Baton Rouge, Central, Zachary and St. George; both the East Baton Rouge Republican and Democratic parties; the Baton Rouge Union of Police; the Baton Rouge Professional Firefighters Association; and the AFL-CIO.

I can’t recall another measure or candidate endorsed by both political parties.

We promised positive change for our city-parish, and we are delivering on that promise through the Thrive EBR plan.

As long as Tasha Amar Brown has a job I will vote against anything to do with Council on Aging.

Sorry old people.

Do you really know that they manage their money wisely?

I am not saying they do not, but it’s easy to look good when you get way more revenues than you need.

The DA, and storm water drainage are functions and they are short funds.

Plus the parish debt is expensive and should be paid down.

Like you I oppose paying BRPD, BRFD, and other city obligations with my property taxes. I think we should give Coach a fighting chance to get things in order.

I think that’s better than letting the Library people, the MARC people and Tasha sit on my money.

Thrive shaves some parish taxes from the Library Board and the Council on Aging and moves the taxes to support other PARISH WIDE programs, like the sheriff, sewage and the DA's office.

Maybe if they said where this "parish wide" money was going to be redirected to exactly, instead of it going into the general fund to be spent at their discretion, then i'd might vote yes for it depending on what they planned on using it for.
I have zero issues with redirecting money from the library system and council on aging. That's been long overdue but idiots keep voting to renew their taxes. But if you're just going to redirect it to the city police, then i'm not ok with that. Tell me what it's being redirected to or i'm simply voting NO. I'm not giving up my tax money from st. george so that it can be spent in Baton Rouge.

This is what they say it will be redirected to:
quote:

keep essential services running, pay down debt, and invest in the infrastructure

essential services of the city of baton rouge aren't my problem. my property taxes already go to my new city's essential services. What's the matter, you guys can't pay for essential services without the money from St. George? Sounds like maybe you need to tax your city residents more instead of finding ways to take my cities money for your city.

paying down BR city debt isn't my problem as a st. george resident.

What infrastructure? You going to buy some new electric buses for CATS?

They say this as well:
quote:

Better roads, safer streets, modern drainage, and less debt

again, don't care about your debt.
Safer streets in North Baton Rouge ain't my problem, and you aren't fixing it with money, and i don't want you spending parish money for that.

Now if you dedicated this money to specific road projects and specific drainage projects, then i'd likely be all for that.

But all i see is buzz words to make it sound good, when in reality it will likely be wasted on stupid shite (or shite that should be paid for by BR city residents, not those outside the city) that has zero benefit to me as a St. George resident.

What is wrong with you people?!? You don't know shite about the Thrive Plan other than you're against it.

Posters: "I hope Coach Edwards gets elected so he can make some changes on how our taxes are spent!!"

Edwards gets elected and proceeds to do exactly what he promised he would do.

Posters: "I'm not going to support Coach Edwards plan for setting priorities on PARISH tax collections!!"
