Used to drive it often. Solid 7 hour if you push it and time Houston right.
I always hated the the section past Houston that went down to 4 lanes.
Idiot drivers driving the speed limit in the fast lane

To Houston is fine. Houston to San Antonio kinda sucks. Just go fast

Why do you millennials care about scenery alongside a highway?
You're going to have you cell phone stuck in your face the whole ride, what does it matter?

I used to make the drive regularly from the Lake Charles area. Just east of a town called Waelder, there is a curve that I've seen several accidents in. Usually a cop sitting in the area too. Dial it back a notch along there.

The best way to do it is leave Baton Rouge at about 8:00am on a weekday heading west over the new bridge. You should get about 30 minutes of scenery crossing the Mississipi River alone. Leaving Baton Rouge at 8 should put you in Beaumont by noon (ish). Hop off the interstate and explore Downtown Beaumont for a few hours, grab a fine lunch at one of Beaumonts highly rated restaurants (I recommend Chili's), heading off toward Houston at about 4PM, as the key to maximum Houston scenery is going all the way through it at rush hour.

Apparently spelling is important in this thread. I won't make that mistake again.

I'd say fly, but there's not going to be anything direct, so you'd have to connect Houston or Dallas anyway. Maybe a Southwest flight from MSY to SAT?

Not every Buc-ee's is the same. The Luling store is the flagship. The smaller ones (not sure what is in Temple) are pretty blah.

This is now an option, I did this in August.
