Leave BTR. Hit L"Auberge for lunch and a little gaming. Drive through Vidor, try not to catch the racism bug in the air. Roll through Houston. Between Houston and San Antone, there is Shiner and the aforementioned Buc-ee's.

Better off flying if you are coming from as far as BR. Houston to San Antonio is one of the most boring drives you will ever encounter. The reason people just drive Hou to SA is that with modern flying being what it is, it's actually shorter timewise to just suck it up and drive. But from BR it's probably faster to fly and it will save you the boredom.

You're in luck. Some of the best barbecue in the world is a quick few miles north of i10 in luling Texas. It's at the City Market-get brisket, ribs, and sausage rings. I would actually make the drive just for that.
Aside from that you could spend a night in Houston and eat some good food or visit a museum.

Other than Buckees being a strangely universal experience for that drive, I mostly think about how you get past Houston and start seeing Katy exits... and then you drive for an hour... and you're STILL seeing Katy exits. Katy must be gigantic.

Nope, sounds about right to me. Everytime I stop at the one in Terrell, its crowded as frick, there's usually a line for the bathroom, the parking lot is full etc. I'd rather go to a regular gas station than anywhere near a Buc-ee's anymore.
