It was probably fine 100 years ago. Today, probably should just stay in Texas.

Despite the hyperbole from some on here about the dangerousness of New Orleans, seriously, unless they are black and very much acclimated to New Orleans ratchet culture, do not let them take their neophyte family to a parade in the East. Period.

Exactly. This board is very hyperbolic about crime in New Orleans.

But New Orleans East is its own beast and the hyperbole is real in that area.

Pre Katrina it wasn't nearly as bad, some people have said it used to be a great place to live. I've never lived there so I don't know. I had a big customer with a HUD property there and there are subdivisions with nice homes there alot of them are no longer kept up. Seems like at some point could've been a good place. Presently Chef Hwy looks like a Mad Max setting.

No. A good friend was NOPD in that district (7th?). Daily stories of crazy shite and I did some ride alongs too. Overall, generally, I would say the same or similar Pre-K compared to present.

New Orleans and they add East at the end, you do not want to bring your family to it.

Fun fact my great grandparents lived in Nola East off Reed until Katrina in 2005. The only white people in their entire neighborhood.

I used to do Uber part-time and have driven through every part of the city. New Orleans East is by far the worst and should be avoided. Pines Village has the be the most 3rd world looking hood in the country.

There’s stubborn and then there’s that. Or were their options limited?

The white families pretty much all left the East by the late 90’s.

Old, limited income with a paid off house and they had decent neighbors who left them alone.

Hats off to your friend. I'd never be a cop especially NOPD. The current landscape is too messed up to take that type of job around here.

Krewe of Nefertiti.

I don't think the real Nefertiti would appreciate her name being used for this.

I’d recommend the family wear their kevlar vests. I’d also advise them against bringing large amounts of cash and valuables. Otherwise have fun!

I was born and raised in the East. Off of Haynes near Bullard. Lived there until 2004.
