Was just looking at the map and didn't realize how far south Jefferson Parish went. Is there a reason that Grand Isle isn't in Lafourche Parish? It's almost hilarious that people in Grand Isle and people in Metairie vote on the same officials/taxes/etc...

ETA: I feel like if the only way to get to another part of the parish is to leave the parish entirely, you should look at your boundaries

ETA2: I get geographically how its possible but culturally, economically, etc.. it just seems to not make any sense. Unless Grand Isle historically held some sort of advantage that JP didn't want to give up or something.

Yeah, this has always made no sense to me.

The only way to even get to Grand Isle is to drive like an hour through Lafourche Parish.

It was pretty funny watching all the Jefferson Parish politicians riding on the floats at the Tarpon Rodeo parade

Consequently, why are there so many parishes that are split by the Mississippi River? Such a waste of transportation dollars.

The county seat of St. John Parish is on the west bank but 90% of the population lives on the east bank.

Makes logical sense............

Almost like Parish lines were drawn before highway 1 was made. Like they used fricking boats or something, idiots.

If Lafitte/Larose highway would have ever been finished you would be less confused.

Grand Isle used to have a whole lot more land around it.

Hell, I think there was a rail line that went there at one time.

Other than St Martin (which has an interesting history of division) I can't think of another parish that you have to leave to get to another part.

You can't get to the west bank of St. John without either going thru St. James or St. Charles. Same if you went west to east.

Unless you kayak the river.
